Below are quotes from Marc Vaughan regarding general
aspects of Championship Manager which you will not find in the game manual.
When at your defenders, ensure the following:
Important Defender stats:
Positioning, Tackling, Jumping, Heading, Marking, Tackling, Stamina, Strength, Decisions
Also consider the following:
* DC's need decent jumping stats (and heading preferably)
* DL/R need decent stamina and positioning (because they're more likely to move forward
and need to know when to get back).
* Don't allow players with poor Marking to be set as Man Markers
* Check for players with poor 'Jumping' being pulled back for Corners/Freekicks - this
isn't terribly helpful as they'll find themselves mismatched by good attackers on
occassion.
* If a defender gets 7+ usually but glitches with 5/6's every so many games he may be
inconsistent (a very bad trait in a defender).
" guess the period they will have to not play matches
so the messages will stop varies from player to player"
It does indeed, it depends on a hidden 'natural fitness' stat, some youngsters can take
repeated first team football ... some are more fragile and need nurturing ...
"Thanks I wonder if substituting young players before
the 60th minute so their condition is always 100% will let them develop normally even
though they play each game?"
It'll help (which is why you'll notice irl a lot of managers do similar things with
promising youngers) .... in a similar way bringing them on for the last 30 minutes or so
of a match is a reasonable way of giving them experience without risking burnout
"
Need a rest/Exhausted" messages appear if you are over-playing a player and he isn't getting a chance to recuperate properly between matches. While these messages are visible his rate of 'condition' increase will be slightly slower and (in the case of young players) his development may be hindered .....if you continually ignore such messages with young players you might burn him out, leading to loss of overall ability and recurring injuries.
How does coaches stats improve, if at
all?"
Yes they do - coaches learn from experience and also having other decent coaches around.
When selecting a player to be a coach, look at his age, maturity and how much respect he
inspires in his team mates
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=5031918492&r=7221938492#7221938492
Far too often you can win about 3 games 4-0
or 5-0, then get a number of stuffings from inferior teams (even sometimes against the
same team with the same tactics in a league/cup double fixture). Sure, this happens in
real life, but it happens ALL THE TIME in CM3..
Check your team if they're prone to this sort of slump you've probably got a large number
of young players .... they tend to be more prone to 'over-confidence' than more mature
players
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=6251987492&r=1981987492#1981987492
So your saying that a fool proof method of
preventing this is to play a team almost entirely comprised of 25yrs+ players? True, my
teams are usually peppered with the odd 20yr old...."
They don't all have to be elder players but you do require a core of older influential
players to keep things steady ... irl most teams who win a major league have an average
age over 27 incidentally. Personally I try and keep at least 3 players aged around 28+
with decent influence ratings in the side to steady the younger players. Another trick you
could try though is rotating players so that they don't get too secure/cocky about their
position in the side ...
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=6251987492&r=1981987492#1981987492
"Bad Runs in winter"
One thing which is overlooked by CM players is the weather, bear in mind that your silky
passing play might not work quite so well on a wet and windy day in december when you're
players are slipping all over the shop and the opposition are cracking shots that swirl in
the wind from 20 yards befuddling the goalie.
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=4581918092&r=7661989092#7661989092
Man of the match...but another player
with higher rating...Pires was voted Mom in my demo-game, while Pennant had higher rating
This has always happened in CM once in a while, normally the MoM while having a lower
rating will have had a big impact on the match (eg. a defender might have played
impeccably however a sub came on in the 50th minute and setup two goals so he gets the
MoM) ... its fairly rare but can happen.
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=8841952092&r=9371952092#9371952092
In my case i lost 7 out of my last 12 games
and won only 2 and missed out of Europe by a single point to Fulham. I like to consider
myself a good manager but i couldn't account for it.. i basically lost the ability to
score.
Common causes of this sort of slump are:
1. Too many flair players who get demoralised when things aren't going their way, you need
a backbone in a team of 'determined' players in order to stop the team from slumping when
matches aren't going their way.
2. Too many young players, youngsters are more prone to confidence swings that can affect
this sort of thing. They also tend to 'tire' if they play too many games in a season
which means they may not be performing to their peak when you need them towards the end of
a season.
3. Unhappy captain, having an unhappy captain is not a good thing and can seriously affect
the performance of a team (how much this is true depends on the players professionalism).
4. Unhappy influential players, having unhappy influential players is not a good thing and
can seriously affect the performance of a team (how much this is true depends on the
players professionalism).
If my team gets in a slump then I tend to ensure that the
teams average age is reasonable (over 24, preferably around 27-28) .... that the captain
is happy and has been at the club a while (and as such is known by all the players there)
and that all the players in the team have reasonable morale (ok and above) and high(ish)
workrate for as many positions as possible. This might mean that my team doesn't play
particularly pretty football at these times, but they do tend to 'grind' out results ....
which at the end of the day is what keeps the fans and board happy
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=20719217&m=103193305&r=171199305#171199305
There is a maximum increase of up to 3 points via. training
directly (ie. if you train technique by it can only increase by a maximum of 3 points)
however if training/experience/age/aptitude/application mean that a players hidden ability
goes up then his ability stats can increase by much more than this.
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=20719217&m=253191394&r=187197305#187197305
The FA will also sometimes postpone a match due to injuries, but this is much rarer than for International Call-ups (as Middlesborough found out the other year) http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=5871917902&r=8851987902#8851987902
Players do react to being scouted (ie. having club interested in them) as this puts extra pressure on them to perform. For some players this might bring the best out in them, others may have a bad patch .....I'll try and remember to add something to the 'Future' of a player to indicate how he handles this sort of thing http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=8741906112&r=1571956112#1571956112
Also the training facilities and the coaches outfield/goalkeeping ratings affect player developments (as do many other factors inc. player happiness, exposure to first team football (not too much but some), players application during training (ie. does he skive off ?) etc.). http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=7291935312&r=4641976312#4641976312
Undersoil Heating - It also improves the condition of the
pitch (which is determined partially by the weather) ... this can suit those teams which
play more skillful passing tactics
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=8101921312&r=6941976312#6941976312
Strikers Offside
Off the ball = this affects whether a player 'knows' he's offside
Condition = knackered players are less likely to get back onside
workrate = lazy players won't rush to get back onside
anticipation = this helps a player time his runs well
etc ...
"then does referees make wrong
decision on offside and how often? "
Yes, this happens once in a while ...
" I'm sure you guys aren't
ignoring the defenders and their relative stats to the forwards. these are the stats such
as Positioning and Anticipation which can draw the player into an offside
position. "
Again yes, this is equally true ...
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=1691934512&r=9631906512#9631906512
"What is it in the game engine
or players' hidden attributes that suddenly makes them 'die' from one season to the next?
I can't even count how many times I have seen a player go from great to very average
without any change in his visible attributes. For instance, I've seen players score 25
goals in a season and then fail to score more than five or six in the next campaign. And
these aren't just cases where a club was promoted and thus the player has a hard time
scoring. It involves clubs that play in the same league for both seasons in
question."
There can be many reasons for this:
1. The team he plays for is one dimensional and other teams
have cottoned onto this (eg. Duncan Ferguson at Everton, first 3 games for them he was
awesome .... now, well he's still an icon to their fans).
2. Player might be inconsistent
3. Player might be recoving from injury
4. Player might be knackered from playing too much (especially in young players)
5. Player might be unhappy and unprofessional (so it affects his game)
6. The rest of the team might not be giving him the right service
7. He could be having a simple run of bad luck
.... etc ...
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=6381904222&r=6391979222#6391979222
"A good and bad scout will turn
up the same results but I think that the poorer one will take longer to do so and by this
time the player has been sold"
This is indeed the case, a good scout might report back with all the information on the
player in a couple of weeks whereas in the same time a crap scout might only have given
you fairly basic information on the player ... The actual 'text' reports the scouts give
you will of course be determined by the scouts ability.
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=9461982722&r=5451995722#5451995722
Mature players tend to increase their mental attributes and
their general football 'intelligence' (hence you might find old strikers losing pace but
making up for it by gaining off the ball ...).
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=7491987822&r=6471902922#6471902922
"does this apply no matter how
many games they play or not though? "
To a certain extent players will mature regardless of the number of games they play (ie.
they'll tend to be less temperamental) ... however the more skill based stuff comes with
experience ...
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=7491987822&r=6471902922#6471902922
Each club has a different ticket price (set by the board of
directors) - also bear in mind that gate reciepts don't include season ticket holders who
attend ...
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=3121920142&r=2261920142#2261920142
There is nothing in CM to prevent high scorelines (in fact
if you look through competition histories are a fair few years chances are you'll see a
few). However bear in mind the following:
* Teams do tend to play defensively when they feel a game is beyond reach ... 'damage
limitation' as it tend to be referred to by commentators.
* Certain players on teams (usually younger or less professional) may get complacent/cocky
if you play a much smaller team.
* If you're playing away against a small team take into account the quality (or lack
thereof) of their pitch, your usually slick passing might not take into account the
craters on their pitch or the rock solid surface due to the lack of undersoil heating.
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=4931932242&r=8231964242#8231964242
It takes time (and patience) to bring a player like Anelka
around ... players do get used to a disciplinarion approach given time (quite a lot of it)
...
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=5101908342&r=7691937442#7691937442
"in a very close race in the
league, my poor home form looks like costing me the championship"
This is sometimes due to the greater pressure placed upon players when they're at home
(and the players have low pressure/important matches ratings) ... young players are
especially prone to getting nervous in front of big home crowds ..
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=20719217&m=4491916032&r=8951994142#8951994142
It does happen - but is fairly rare ... when a club turns
into a PLC the following usually happens:
* Initially they get an injection of cash from the share offering.
* They are then slightly more 'driven' than a non-PLC club as the shareholders want
instant results.
* They are subject to slightly tighter wage structuring than a non-PLC club.
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=20719217&m=6371920142&r=4161994142#4161994142
Basically clubs will only 'approach' you if they think
you'll take the job (obvious really) ... if they don't think you will then they won't
approach you but will be dead chuffed if you approach them
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=20719217&m=864197604&r=135194704#135194704
Outfield players who can play in goal are quite rare (as in
real-life) ... but they do exist - a good bet for a reasonable goalies is a player with
good positioning and anticipation, don't expect many outfield players to be holding onto
the ball from a strong shot though (very few have handling above 1).
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=20719217&m=391195024&r=132195024#132195024
What about the cold? What effect does
that have?? "
Certain players may not try as hard if the temperature is different to what they're used
to (high or low) (depends on their professionalism, work-rate and nationality/country
experience) ie. an unprofessional Brazillian playing in not-so-sunny London during
december may not run around as much as if he was playing in warmer climes ... also
obviously the temperature affects the hardness of the pitch and whether snow/sleet etc.
occur.
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=3801928742&r=4281918742#4281918742
"However, I have never had a
brawl on the pitch, has anyone else?"
You can't make them more common, however irl (and in the game) they are more common in
certain South American leagues ....
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=8661962152&r=9001982152#9001982152
Regenerated players don't 'instantly' appear there is a lag
of between one week and six months before a player is regenerated .....
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=4821979362&r=6091963462#6091963462
In CM its possible for Wimbledon to purchase Selhurst Park
if the situation is right (eg. Palace = skint and Wimbledon = Rich) .... unless you're a
Wimbledon fan though you probably wouldn't notice this happening
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=5701967962&r=5761938962#5761938962
Pay close attention to the 'exhausted' and 'in need of a
rest' comments on a players factfile with young players as these may warn you if a player
is approaching 'burn out' which may harm his development
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=01519717&m=541191743
If you're using 442 try to ensure that your two wingers
have 'crossing' set to 'yes' and that you've a decent target man in the middle (ie. a SC
with decent strength, jumping and heading).
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=01519717&m=369196053&r=768198153#768198153
If you put a player on run with ball
or try through ball, does it then mean that he runs with the ball or try to make a through
pass every time he getīs the ball or does it just mean that he is allowed to do such
things?
It encourages him to do such things, but he won't try to do them in all situations ....
its basically like taking Michael Owen to one side and saying 'Michael old bean run at the
opposition, they're scared of you ..'
I have coaches who has been in Roma
for 3 years now and have an adaptability on 15+ why canīt they speak Italian at all?
Some people have a problem learning new spoken languages (or aren't interested in doing
so) ....
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=020197783&r=112191883#112191883
Sometimes I know for sure that a
player has decreased in stats. ie: 2 down in finishing, but the attribute is not shown in
red on the traing screen. WHY?
This is because the changes shown on the training screen are those that have happened due
to training, his stat may have dropped due to injury, age, overall ability dropping etc.
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=536198193&r=027198193#027198193
Once you've trained a player for a new position (and its
registered), don't stop his training straight away as he needs to keep practicing to get
to his best at it. If you stop his training too early then he will 'degrade' and
return to his original position.
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=177194324&r=076193324#076193324
Sponsorship does happen in the game, its quite rare though
....
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=1961984321&r=3031915421#3031915421
Do you guys think that a player with 20 in
every attribute would be the best?
20 in everthing wouldn't work for all types or players or all
roles, for example 20 in teamwork indicates a very unselfish player - it tends in practice
to pay to have strikers who are fairly selfish so that they take shots when they get the
chance, rather than waiting to see if a better opportunity occurs for a team-mate.
In a similar way having 1 for dirtiness can be a real disadvantage if you're a goal down
and the opposition striker is clear through on goal a defender with dirtiness of 20 might
get himself sent off but he'll prevent the goal.
Its very much 'horses for courses', it depends on the situation and the role a player is active in to what settings are best for him ....
Obviously a player with all 20's is going to be very very
good, but it could be that with a couple of stats lower he might actually perform better
in certain roles/situations.
http://community.sigames.com/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=21019056&f=06419017&m=3901937382&r=9161917382#9161917382
