Long and illustrious, here it is...
|
TUV- PS Taipei Animals Football Club |
History: The Animals trace their history back to the Ploughman Pub Team, formed in 1979. The Ploughman Pub played friendly matches on an occasional basis against other ex-pat teams, notably the Over-the-Hill Gang and KLM. Local teams were rarely played against, with the exception of the Ming Chuan Ladies team. Highlights of this period were the trip to Manila in 1981 to play the Nomads, and the return fixture in Taipei in 1982.
The opening of the Red Lion Pub in Tien Mu led to a change of spiritual home and a change of name. Games were regular once-a-week affairs and occasional tournaments were organised.
In 1986, due to an ever increasing number of players and "artistic differences", the Animals split from the Red Lions. Both teams began playing regular matches against Chinese teams, and this led to the introduction of the Taipei Businessmen's League in 1988. The Taipei Animals have competed in this league ever since, with considerable success. The Animals have also competed in the Manila Six-a-Side tournament every year since 1989, winning 4 times and finishing runners-up 4 times.
Aims of the Club: The club offers English-speaking ex-patriots, who have a reasonable level of competence in football (soccer), the opportunity to play the sport and socialize with like-minded individuals. While the League and Manila 6-a-Side are approached competitively, friendly games are approached on an "everybody plays" basis.
It should be noted that all competitive games are played with the object of winning, and therefore, playing time is not guaranteed!
Socializing is encouraged with regular dinners and pub crawls.
The wives and girlfriends are encouraged to join these events, and especially to help with organising.

Membership:
The club has few written rules and no constitution. It is therefore administered as a "benevolent dictatorship" by the Committee, currently consisting of the Team Captain, Club Manager and Vice Captain. Decisions by the Committee are final.
Acceptance of Membership implies acceptance of the preceding conditions. Limits on membership may be set from time to time by the committee, as conditions prescribe.
Currently, the Membership Fee is NT$2,000 per quarter, which pays for the Wednesday night practice facility at Shih-Pai Jr. HS (guests pay NT$200 / session), while there is no charge for kit. This depends on sponsorship obtained to support this expense.
Current Sponsors:
These include TUV-PS, The Tavern, and Fortis.
The Animals are eternally grateful to all their sponsors, and frequent parties are thrown to include and thank them.
The Committee:
The Committee is currently comprised of:
Team Captain: Will Beebe
Club Manager: Martijn de Bot
Advisors: David Camhi (Vice Captain), Michael Chandler,
Chris Grimaud (Former Captain), & Ken Dawson
The Committee meets occasionally to discuss Animals business.
Any suggestions or comments from the members should be brought to the attention of one of the Committee, preferably in writing, for the consideration of the Committee.
