| The ship portrayed here was launched in 1759, she was the third ship of the Royal Navy to bear the name "HMS Sandwich". The length of her gun deck was 176 feet, and, her beam was 49 feet, in this fairly small space lived a crew of 750! HMS Sandwich carried 90 guns and was in service until 1810. This painting is from the brush of British artist Jack Spurling(1870-1933). |
