Reptiles and amphibians are the animals I often find myself relating to, therefore these are my favorite pages. As you can tell from my logo I am very fond of turtles, these beautiful creatures hold a spot in my heart that cannot be filled by any other animals. I even keep turtles and tortoises as pets (or should I say they keep me) and am constantly looking for ways to make their lives in captivity as full and healthy as possible. The animals I keep are either born into captivity or are not releasable back to the wild. I firmly believe that animals should NOT be taken from the wild to be pets. This behavior will only deplete the amount of animals in the wild and is one of the things that could lead to that critter being endangered or even eventually extinct. If you want to learn more about my reptiles and the care aspects please visit my Herpin' Gypsy website at http://www.oocities.org/herpingypsy. Lizard The lizard is the expert at subtle perception. It can sense vibrations through the ground. Its eyes can detect the subtlest of movements, and it has extremely good hearing. All of these are symbolic of specific forms of clairvoyance practiced in many societies. Snake The snake has long been a symbol of death and rebirth. Before it sheds its skin, its eyes begin to cloud over, as if to indicate it is entering into a stage between life and death. Snake medicine people were those who learned to imitate the snake and move between the realms of life and death for healing and for enlightenment. Turtle The turtle is one of the oldest reptiles and thus has one of the most ancient mythologies surrounding. It has been a symbol for Mother Earth, for longevity, and for the awaking of heightened sensibilities. |
