Alright, I'll admit to you that this gallery is very small. My intention here was to just give you enough to get you interested in the series. There are tons of web pages out there boasting thousands of NGE pics so I figured why make another? So, this area is set up similar to my Slayers area. There are characters from the series, a brief history of them and then pics. At the very bottom of this page you will find the opening and closing songs. Enjoy!

Shinji Ikari
This is pretty much the main character of the series. At first glance he really appears to be a wuss, but he just has a lot to deal with. His dad, who apparently abandoned him at a young age, has brought him to NERV. Trust me it wasn't personal. Shinji's dad is Gendo Ikari, and he only wants Shinji in NERV because Shinji is one of the chosen children that can pilot and EVA. Shinji is freaked out about the whole thing and is very reluctant to even pilot the machine. Shinji is the type to run away from things and Misato constantly tells him that he must not run away but face his fear. (and ultimately his dad)

Rei Ayanami
Rei Ayanami is also one of the chosen children. She is definitely the most mysterious. Rei doesn't show very much affection or any emotion for that matter. I think I recall seeing her smile a few times in the series. She thinks very fondly of Gendo and will sacrifice herself for him. Rei is constantly debating over the idea of her being a human. She realizes that every time she dies Gendo just sticks her mind into a new body so, the new Rei will retain memories of the old Rei. Rei seems to be somewhat fond of Shinji too, but I'm not sure why. Rei also comes from an angel called Eve and it is Rei that prevents the final angel from obtaining Adam.

Asuka Langle
Asuka tends to be most people's favorite character in the series along with Rei. She's a fiery tempered red head that comes from Germany. Everything about Asuka screams attitude problem. She is constantly competing with Shinji and she is a sore loser. Asuka also has much hostility towards Rei. The theory behind her hatred is the fact that Asuka's mother killed herself and that her mother would rather have a doll than Asuka. In Asuka eyes Rei is nothing but a doll for Gendo to use. Shinji and Asuka at one point end up living in the same quarters with Misato and dilemmas arise from this. She also seems to have a crush on Misato's boyfriend? Kaji. Asuka does get credit for being the last Eva pilot to go insane, and when she does she isolates herself and runs away from NERV.

Tohji
Tohji would be considered by some as the 4th child. He lasted all of one episode after Shinji's EVA went berserk and almost killed him. Tohji and Shinji pretty much disliked each other. Tohji hated Shinji for the fact that during a battle with the angels one of the EVA's caused damage to an area of the city. This area happened to be where Tohji's younger sister lived and she was severely wounded. Tohji did beat up Shinji for this a few times. But in the end it turns out that Tohji was to pilot an experimental EVA unit and the unit just went haywire. So Tohji's role in this movie was so short I really don't consider him of importance.

EVA Units
The EVA Units in this series are very cool. Each chosen child is assigned an EVA of his/her own. The Eva's at first appear to be large mechs. This is only half true. The Eva's are actually constructed from the angels and in a way are a type of angel. The armor the eva's have isn't to protect the eva but to contain it. NERV is under the assumption that the eva's are controllable, but several times within the series the eva's act on their own. On one occasion an eva breaks an arm restraint to protect Shinji from falling debris and then later on the same eva goes berserk and fights without the input of the pilot. All the eva's are monstrous in size and require an energy source to operate, if the energy source is cut off, the batteries in it will only last a few minutes. I believe the reason for the energy source is to maintain life support for the pilots.

Gendo
Gendo almost plays a sinister part in this series. I really cannot stand the way he treats his son. He also tends to be mindless towards Rei, his own creation. Granted the man may have invented the robots that will save Tokyo but does he have to be a jerk. There isn't a whole lot said about Gendo through out the series but he does play an important role as the head of NERV.

Misato
Misato is a very cool character. She's almost like a tomboy. When she invites Shinji to live with her, Shinji makes a comment about how her refrigerator is full of snacks and beer. Misato also has a very interesting pet penguin called PenPen. She is almost like a mother figure to Shinji and is constantly telling him not to run away from his fear. She also scolds him a lot for being naive and inability to handle certain situations. Misato also has a boyfriend named Kaji. Her and Kaji did share an intimate relationship but it seems that Misato cannot deal with relationship dilemmas. It is also rumored that she is the one who killed Kaji. It turns out that Kaji is trying to get information on NERV and Misato cannot let this happen.

Kaji
Kaji plays a very minimal role in NGE. He appears to be a spy of some sort and has a strange relationship with Misato. One minute they’re in bed together and the next she shoots him. Anyway, I can't remember who or why he was a spy, I just know that he didn't live to tell about what he found at NERV.

Ritsuko
Ritsuko is one of the people who keep NERV operating. She seems to also have Misato under her thumb and is constantly nagging at her. Ritsuko's mother also worked for NERV and happened to fall in love with Gendo. It was around this time that Gendo made Rei and Ritsuko's mother hated Rei. As a matter of fact Ritsuko's mother ends up strangling Rei to death and then kills herself. Ritsuko's mom did do one good thing and that was creating the magi. The three supercomputers that run NERV. Ritsuko also holds a grudge for Rei and near the end of the series she is responsible for destroying all of Rei's dummy bodies and trying to kill Rei.

Kaworu
Kaworu arrives very late in the series. He seems to become close friends with Shinji and stays at Shinji's place for a while. Kaworu is the rumored 5th child but, here's a plot twist he is also an angel. He is the last angel sent to NERV and his disguise is perfect. Kaworu manages to make his way down in to the area where NERV stores adam. Shinji is then forced to make the terrible decision of killing his friend. If Shinji doesn't then the angels will have succeeded. But, Shinji pulls through and does what he has to. It is after this point in the movie that I get lost and the whole human instrumentality project is explained/done.
