The Selling Out of America

Frank Carlton - Chairman Missouri LoS
17 January 2004

America as we have known it is down on her knees, breathing her last. One hundred and forty three years of those in power cursing God and the common man who elect them has brought us to this precipice. Looking down into the depths that await us brings on a nightmarish fear. Will this fear be of the paralysing, or the animating kind?

Only America's citisens can answer that question.
This country can not sustain many more crippling blows, but sadly we have just received three. We all feared Bush would do something this year to cater to our plague of illegal aliens, sadly he has not proven us wrong. His idea to grant three year work permits to the 8-13 million illegals here now is a blow America and her common workers can not stand under.

If you think pay scales and unemployment rates are bad now, just wait a short while, cause we ain't seen nothing yet. Do you think legislation the last 10 years has been devastating? Just wait until these illegals, mostly from socialist countries, have even more say in how America is governed.

Another point to consider in this legislation is this. We have all known for some time that there are many foreign terrorists here now. What will happen when the last rusty lock is removed from our borders and even more people pour across? Working folk and the Grace of God are the only two things that have kept this country afloat all these years. From the first Pilgrims to land on these shores struggling to survive one more year, to the modern working couple resigning themselves to an early grave just to pay the bills, the common workers have always carried this country on their backs. Think of all the past wars and the current one. Is it those in power who bear the death and devastation? We all know from the empty chairs at our own tables the answer to that question.

That George Bush would desire to enact this legislation is inexcusable. He knows it was the common man and woman who elected him. They voted for him because they believed his soundbites, carefully scripted words to speak to the hearts of people who know what this country was founded upon and still hold those ideals in high regard. The next blow given yesterday was Bush's news that he wishes to enable corporations to stop overtime pay to 8 million American workers. We all know many families that rely on overtime just to make ends meet and I'm sure Bush is also aware of this fact. What does that say of his concern for the very people who elected him in the first place? I will tell you what it says. He is in fact selling us and our country out for his own and his government's gain, pure and simple.

The newest blow just received today was word that Bush wants to give 3.7 billion dollars, yes that's billion, to religious groups in America. Oh, I can hear the spineless, preach the gospel according to the Republican party preachers, screaming at me now. What's wrong with our president giving us all this glorious money? Well for one thing, have you ever known the government to give money without some very short strings attached? Any Christian preacher worth his salt will run as fast as he can from any government funding. You know as well as I, the reasons Bush is offering this money. One, to have a footing for more control in what the Christian community can and cannot do. Two, to throw one more bone to the Christian Right just before election time in the hopes of appeasing them for just one more term.

Through various legislation since he was elected, George Bush has made it evident, he cares nothing for what we, the common people want. Think about this fact when you go to the voting booths this year. I do not see how any working American or anyone who calls himself a Christian could vote for a man who is throwing away yours and your children's future.

The time of voting for the lesser of two evils is past. This faulty reasoning has helped bring us to our current, despicable place. A place in which the ideals of America's core citisenry are being blatantly destroyed by the very officials we are electing. At this time, we who know the truth and still have hope left, must attempt to open the eyes of our fellow citisens.

Here in Missouri, we are now compiling a record of all the devastating legislation passed under Bush's reign. This record will be used to educate pastors, community leaders and common people as to exactly what has been happening to their country and why. We will also use this record as a tool to confront our State officials, to find out where their loyalties lie, with the very people who elected them, or with Washington, DC.

It is our hope that each one of you will use this idea in your own States. At the same time, please share with the rest of us any other tactics you feel will work in our stand against this destruction America is facing.
