William James Anderson was born in 1974 and he grew up in Heyfield, a small town in Victoria.
He began work as a journalist at the Financial Review and the Herald Sun, but gave it up for a career in stand up comedy. His shows over the past few years, including "Diet Life", "I Am The Wilrus", "Wilennium", "Terra Wilius" and "Who Wants To Be A Wilionaire" (see a pattern?), have all been extremely popular. He has performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, the Adelaide Fringe Festival, the Edinburgh Festival (where he was nominated for the Perrier Best Newcomer Award) and he does regular shows all around Australia.
Wil has started to appear on our television screens more and more over the past few years, as well, making regular appearances on Good News Week and Richard Fidler's Mouthing Off. He has also done some Super Debate-ing, appeared on Channel Seven's World Cup Comedy, The Fat and many other programs. There are rumours of Wil being offered his own show, but he seems reluctant to go in that direction, preferring to stick with his stand up.
He has also done a few ads for various products, including the Maxibon ice-cream (though he was been replaced Bert Newton!) and ice-coffee milk.
In 1998, Wil began work on Triple J's Breakfast Show with Adam Spencer, each Wednesday morning between 7 and 7.30am. Towards the end of the year, he increased this workload, and now he can be heard on the Breakfast shift every weekday morning.
Late in 1999, Wil also made a foray into the world of acting, appearing in a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, which was performed in the Melbourne Botanical Gardens. He performed alongside Greg Fleet, Corinne Grant, Stephen Kearney and Kate Atkinson.
In 2001, Wil joined forces with the GNW writing and production team, and acted as host for their ABC program, The Glasshouse, alongside Corinne Grant and Dave Hughes.
I went and saw Wil perform at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2000. For a review, visit Epod.
