Tango Adentro
Toronto as a Tango Town
|
Not surprisingly, Toronto has vibrant Tango community. There are many teachers,
organizers, and events. One can find a public tango event six out of severn nights of the week.
Tango dance parties are called Milongas. All milongas in Toronto take place on the weekend:
Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Some of the milongas offer introductory classes just
before the dance. This is ideal for the absolute beginner as the class offers a glimpse of
what social tango is, and the participant can watch other dancers during the milonga.
During the week, there are several "practicas", or practices. These are places where people
come to dance in a less formal setting. Discussions are encouraged in these settings so
both partners can gain a better understanding of the techniques or steps that they are learning.
Most classes are offered during the week. Occasionally, workshops with well known
teachers from out-of-town are also offered by one or another of the organizers. These are
great opportunities to learn about tango from new and different angles.
