Tania Emery loves trawling designer boutiques for one
off vintage styles, but steers clear of Cuban heels.
ON her style - Dressed head to toe in
co-ordinating separates from Gap, it was clear from the
minute we met that Tania's style is worlds apart from
her on-screen character's DC Kate Spears. 'I steer well
clear of Kate's Lycra and viscose stuff and I spend a
lot more on my clothes,' says Tania, who later admits to
having once forked out over 500 pound on one outfit.
She's more interested in trawling second-hand shops and
vintage boutiques than the high street, too. 'I love
wearing vintage clothes,' she says. 'It means that
someone else has had the confidence to wear them and
they're unique, so you won't see anyone else in them.'
With this in mind, we weren't surprised when Tania said
that she prefers to take inspiration from Sex And The
City star Sarah Jessica Parker rather than such
celebrities as Jennifer Aniston or Cat Deeley. 'I admire
Sarah Jessica's confidence and alternative style sense'
she says.
ON designers - When it comes to designers, Tania
likes to mix and match. 'I like my style to appear
thrown together and not contrived, so I shop at a
variety of different placed,' she says. 'I love going to
Harvey Nichols for Juicy and Earl jeans - they're such a
good fit. I also like Philosophy and Joseph clothes,
which I buy from this great boutique in Wimbledon called
Matches. They sell lots of designer names - half of
which I haven't even heard of.' Tania loves designs by
John Galliano and Vivienne Westwood because of their
'theatricality and artiness,' but she says she wouldn't
have the guts to wear any of their outfits. 'I love
over-the-top designs, but I feel more comfortable in
understated clothes from Joseph.' she says. Her wardrobe
favourite is a puff-sleeved blazer from Kenzo Jungle.
'It's very trendy for me, though,' she says.
ON fashion disasters - 'I've made loads of
fashion mistakes.' confesses Tania. 'In the early 90's,
I used to wear Cuban heels when I went clubbing with
friends,' she says. 'They were the biggest Cuban heels
ever and once, as I was walking into a night club, I
fell right over in front of everyone and my heel
snapped. I spent the next nine hours hobbling around,
desperately trying not to draw attention to myself. Now
I tend to stick to kitten heels on a night out.'
