Tania Emery was
born in 1976 in Windsor, Berkshire, England and grew up
in Buckinghamshire. The Cancerian, in 2006, will be
turning 30.
One of Tania’s first ever jobs was as an assistant in
a hair salon, but she soon realised that this was not
the job for her. Tania attended the London Studio Centre
where she studied drama along with a co-the bill star
Alex Walkinshaw who plays PC Smith. Her mother was a
performing dancer in the original West End Production of
Cabaret and Tania followed in her footsteps, dancing at
the age of three but later studying both dance and the
dramatic arts. Tania has starred in numerous pop videos,
which she can be recognized from, including those of
Bryan Ferry, D-Ream and Cher. Back in 1996, Tania
featured in a music video for Cher’s “One By One”.
Screen captures of her appearance in this music video
can be found in my SCREEN
CAPTURES section. I managed to find an
encode for download off the file sharing program, WinMX.
In 1996, Tania was in a film called "LAAJOOL",
also titled "Pens, Guns and Global Funds".
Tania played one of the main characters called Janet
Yates. The film was shot in London and was a sci-fi
comedy that followed a group of pals during their last
24 hours leading up to an international curfew.
Before joining The Bill in 2000, Tania filmed a trilogy
of films about London life all under the same director,
Simon Rumley. These movies include; – “Strong
Language”, “The Truth Game” and “Club Le
Monde”. Tania has appeared in various shorts such as
Dolls and Makers where she played lead character Anne,
and Commercial Hairdressing for director Andy Isaacs.
And she also appeared in the Model Raj at Waterman's
Arts Centre and played three different characters in BBC
Radio 4's - The Actress, The writer and The Censor.
Also before joining the cast of The Bill as a regular,
she appeared in an episode of The Bill, in an episode
called “Bad Habits”, playing a beat up prostitute
named Dawn South. Captures
image here. She joined the cast of The
Bill in 2000 as DC Kate Spears (On The Hook
Prt1). The start of the re-make over of The Bill with
the addition of young, good looking police officers and
a whole new CID team. Tania describes her character DC
Kate Spears as: "a feisty kick ass kind of
girl". Tania was delighted to land the role in, The
Bill.
Unfortunately Tania’s time was cut short at The Bill
and after two years was given the sack by the new
executive producer who killed off the character of Kate
Spears along with several other under-used /
under-developed characters in the Sun Hill Fire (008).
Tania was said to have been stunned by her sacking (SEE
TRANSCRIPT ARTICLE HERE) but was quoted
in the 2003 The Bill 20th Anniversary Book as
saying, at least she wasn’t being sent into the
stationary cupboard never to be seen again.
Since
leaving The Bill, Tania has been a part of the filming
of an independent Horror film called “LD 50 Lethal
Dose” in 2003, which stars Mel B (Spice Girl – Scary
Spice). Although not a starring role for Tania, playing
a supporting character named Jenny. According to NIXFLIX
Reviews, who has told me that all up,
Tania appeared for 5 minutes and she doesn't die. "I
believe her character Jenny is the one who became an
executive at a corporation, thus "selling out"
to "the man" much to the group's chagrin. Her
character appears in the beginning, disappears, then
appears again for about 1 minute after that, and doesn't
appear in the movie again. So I'd say she has about 5
minutes of screen time, and doesn't really have any
impact on the story. And her character doesn't die."
Also recently Tania
has had a guest spot on a UK program called
"Doctors", playing a character named Sarah
Nyland in an episode called "Trouble At The
Bank".
Tania appeared in a 2003, American movie called
"Den Of Lions", which was mostly filmed in
Hung aria. Her character name in the movie is Rita.
Tania plays an illegal immigrant who is separated from
her family to be forced into prostitution. The movie is about a
Hungarian gypsy working for a Russian mobster who
becomes a double agent for the FBI. The movie is
directed by James Bruce and is a violent thriller.
Tania made an appearance on a UK sketch show called
"Impressionable Jon Culshaw" credited, 2004.
The skit involved ex-cast members of The Bill, which
included Tania Emery reprising her role of DC Kate
Spears. The skit was about DC Kate Spears and DC Rod
Skase tracking down a mutant cyborg.
2004, Tania was a part of a London Stage production
called "Henry IV". Her character name is
called Frida, a 19-year old daughter to the main
female character. The play is about an Italian nobleman
who falls from his horse during a pageant. When he comes
round, he believes he is his carnival character, the
medieval German Emperor, King Henry IV. For twenty years
he lives this illusion but today a plot is being hatched
to shock him out of this ‘madness’ and into the
twenty-first century. The play opened on May 4th 2004
and ran till June 26th 2004, featuring at the Donmar
Warehouse theatre in London, before touring in July to
Salford, Bristol and Liverpool.

Tania was one of 184
actresses who were auditioned to a film about casting
actresses; The 2004 American release of "Casting
About". "Casting About" is a
feature-length, lyrical documentary that explores the
captivating experience of casting actors. From the point
of view of a filmmaker, we see and hear many of the 350
actresses who audition for three roles in a dramatic
film. Casting About weaves together footage from casting
sessions held in five cities (Berlin, Boston, Chicago,
London and Los Angeles), including actor interviews,
monologues, and scene work to create an impressionistic
collage of the casting experience. The viewer sits in
the filmmaker's seat, watching the actors at work and
learning about their lives, vulnerabilities, fears and
dreams. In this setting, there is an implicit
exploration of the boundaries between fiction and
reality, as well as the dialectic between voyeurism and
intimacy. The film includes footage of 184 actresses who
interview and perform scenes from the fiction script, as
well as monologues from the work of renowned
contemporary playwrights. The film has been screening at
film festivals all over the world. Checkout the official
Casting
About website for past and future
screenings.
Tania was involved in a once only rehearsed reading of a
play called "A Kind Of Justice" directed by
Rania K. in London. The one time only performance took
place in September and Tania read for the part of
'Clare'. The play was written by an Austrian author and
is a monologue about race discrimination.
Also at the end of 2004, Tania played the character of
Monica in a 30 minute short film titled "Road to
Damascus", directed by Chris Munro. Filmed on
location in London, the short was about a down and out
actor who is trying to get back into the big time and
his adventures with a script that keeps falling into his
hands no matter what he does to try and get rid of it.
(thanks to Belinda for the info, who did hair and
make-up for the short). It is still un-known if this was
a made for tv, or film festival short.
Tania has also been doing some commercial voice over
work, signed with the London Voice Over company, Vocal
Point. Commercials include Care Wipes, Olympus Digital
Camera and more. Listen to these commercials in a
compilation audio file, link found on my Audio
Downloads Page.
2005, and Tania appeared in a British film titled
"Brothers of the Head". The film is based off
a novel about conjoined twins in the early 1970s, who
are groomed into rock stars and soon launched on an
unsuspecting music scene as the "next big
thing." Tania plays a medical journalist named
Laura Ashworth who has an attraction to one of the
conjoined twins, Thomas. Directed by Louis Pepe and
Keith Fulton. This film had it's premiere at the Toronto
Film Festival on September 10th 2005 and has continued
to screen through 2006 opening in America on July 28th
and in Australia on August 17th 2006.
2005, Tania was seen in a BBC1 UK documentary
/ drama titled "Egypt". The series screened as
3, hour long episodes in this mini series, which is
based on 3 different stories. Tania featured in the
storyline for the final episode titled "Secrets of
the Hieroglyphs", which screened on December 4th.
Tania played Rosine Champollion, wife of historian
Jean-Francois Champollion who struggles to break the
code of the hieroglyphs of Egypt's temples and tombs.
Rosine (Tania) is pregnant and not happy about her
husbands frequent trips to Egypt. Thanks to Tom Harrison
for this information and help!
