About the Tammuriata In the ancient pre-Roman times, this was danced to the Great Mother Goddess as a Harvest Ritual of thanks; it has survived these thousands of years in Southern Italy primarily. It is a drumming dance, with heavy rhythms from the castagnettes. If you would like to know how the Ancient Greeks and Romans enjoyed themselves, come to this workshop and learn from Tanja, of Italy. About Tanja Tanja is a native of Sicily, and now lives in Northern Italy. She has had articles on belly dance published in HABIBI magazine; also in Internet zines, GILDED SERPENT and BHUZ.COM . She has learned and performed the Tammuriata regularly, and has also performed Raks Sharki in Italy, Turkey, and the US. She is part of the Tucson belly dance troupe, Astarte, who have also performed the Tammuriata. Tanja will be vending authentic Tammuriata CDs and authentic castagnettes made in Southern Italy! GREAT FOR DANCERS OF ALL LEVELS! LADIES ARE ENCOURAGED TO WEAR BIG PEASANT SKIRTS OR ANY SKIRT THAT SWIRLS!!!! MEN ARE ENCOURAGED TO WEAR LOOSE-FITTING PANTS, THE BAGGIER THE BETTER. BRING WATER.
