Acne Laser Resurfacing: Information and facts

Laser resurfacing is one of the most common treatments used for wrinkles and acne scars today. Like many things in plastic surgery, laser resurfacing goes by several names: wrinkle laser, lasabrasion, laser peel, laser surgery, laser vaporization, laser desurfacing, and several others. All of these terms refer to the use of the laser to treat wrinkles and acne scarring. Laser resurfacing is a procedure where a laser tool emits a beam of light on the skin and burns off the surface cells of the skin which smoothes scar tissue. With new Laser Skin Resurfacing technology it is now possible to reduce, and in some cases remove, facial wrinkles, acne scars and other facial scars, and a variety of skin growths and blemishes.

Different kinds of lasers are used in this procedure, including the CO2 laser and the YAG laser. Redness and tenderness can last from several weeks to months after the procedure. Further scarring is possible, although rare. To prevent skin discoloration it is recommended to avoid sunlight for several months after this procedure by using sunscreen and hats outdoors.
