Memorial to Tanya Burr, 1981-2002

Tanya's car-crash 30 August 2001

These photos were taken outside 612 Marychurch Rd. (SH1B), near Hamilton, on 4 September 2001. The black patch of tarseal on the road was loose gravel at the time of the crash.

The tyre tracks leave the road just to the left of the broken marker post closest to the camera in the top photo. The car then cut through the hedge-trees in the foreground (since trimmed following and because of the accident), before connecting with the picket fence on the right (also repaired in these photos). This is the point where the damage was done to the car.

Only the picket fence was damaged. The tyre marks suggest it then slid sidewards, presumably when Tanya applied the brakes. My white car is shown at bottom where the Integra stopped. She thought she hit the accelerator harder as the car began to slide in the metal.
