The Norwegian Segment of Tanya's trip

20 August 2002: Sweden (Part One)

Tanya's Diary - Tuesday, 20 August 2002

"Today we crossed the border into Sweden. We went to a very small town called Brunskog, where my great, great grandmother was from. Then we drove to another town where we ate at a nice restaurant by a lake. After that we went to another town to do some shopping. I couldn't get any Swedish money from the ATM, so I didn't buy anything.

We came back to Norway and walked round and old fort from the war. Took photos, then went home.

Tonight we drank Margaritas. Tom and Britt had bought a lot of alcohol and cartons of smokes in Sweden because its so much cheaper there."

We also succeeded in getting our passports stamped as we entered Sweden (with some difficulty as they weren't sure what stamp to use for such a rare request). When the Customs Officer saw it in Tanya's passport as she prepared to fly out of Norway, he commented something to the effect of: 'Those Norwegians sneaking off over the border to buy cheap booze again?' She thought that was funny.
