Memorial to Tanya Burr, killed 15 September 2002

The Norwegian Segment of Tanya's trip

Tanya's Diary - Wednesday, 21 August 2002

"Today we travelled to a small city called Hamar. Went to an immigration museum. I lay outside in the sun. Not interested. Then we went to an old train museum. Then we ate at a cafe, but I had McDonalds instead, and it was just like NZ. Now I must get ready to go to London tomorrow morning.

Norwegian words I have learned (with the spellings corrected):

Marsvin        = guinea pig

Pinnsvin       = Hedgehog

Hund            = dog

Thank you    = Tusentakk

Hei                = Hello

A group portrait on the back lawn at Stan, Maria and Christina's home on 21 August. Tanya and Kieran had just had a fight, which is why she is laughing and he is hiding. (Photo: Stan)

Tanya and Maria saying their farewells on Maria's front steps. The next time we were in contact was when Stan, Maria and Christina arrived here in Palmerston North and phoned me on the evening of 16 September to announce their arrival. This was a couple of hours after we had heard that Tanya had been killed. (Photo: Stan)

Tanya's only photo taken at the museum. She had finally found a real moose. (Photo: Tanya)

This is the little old restored railway station that has the moose head inside it. (Photo: Val)
