The Norwegian Segment of Tanya's trip

Tanya's Diary - Thursday, 15 August 2002

"This morning I went with Elin to get bridesmaid dress from some small town. Looked at a mall there, but didn't buy. Aunty Pam and Dennis arrived in afternoon. Pam gave me a T-shirt from Paris - a cat one.

Tonight we had a BBQ with burnt sausages. Then I went to bed about 8pm. I was so tired I didn't even want Pavlova."

Uncle's Dennis (left) and Paul evidently burning the sausages on the barbecue. The female NZ contingent were mostly in the kitchen making such things as Pavlova without a handy recipe (well Pam was). For the uninitiated, Pavlova is a meringue-shelled 'cake' filled with whipped cream and named after a Russian ballet dancer from the early 20th century. NZ and Australia endlessly compete over which of the two countries was the origin of the recipe under this name. (Photo: Tom)

A pinnsvin lived under the verandah at Tom and Britt's house. This was the first Norwegian word the Kiwis learned!
