In Memory of Tanya Burr, 1981-2002

Photos contributed by Tanya's brother Kieran

These photos were taken by the kids' uncle, Russell Burr, but are from Kieran's album and he wants to contribute them in memory of his big sister. Russell boarded at our home between 1981 and the mid-1990s. They cover a trip in 1995 by Tanya and Russell to Kapiti Island; the kids' first flight in 1995 (their only plane flight before going to Europe in 2002); and the holiday Russell took them on around the South Island in January 1997.

Lunchtime on Kapiti Island (a protected native wildlife reserve), 23 April 1995. This trip was memorable for Tanya moaning all the way up to the top of the island about how long the walk was and demanding to know how much was left. Russell kept telling her they were almost at the top as she moaned repeatedly. Finally that slick tactic ran out when they reached a sign that said 'Half-way'!

THE aforementioned historic DC3 after the flight. Kieran is in the foreground and Tanya is second from right in the distance. She was much more relaxed after the flight than before it!

The above three photos were taken at various points around the South Island when Russell made the mistake of offering to take both kids away somewhere at the same time for a two-week period in January 1997. It was a very memorable trip for all three of them - but they had a good time just the same!
