Who am I?

My name is Tanya Piejus and I'm 32 years old. Until I left England to travel round Australia I was living in London, although I'm originally from Kent. Making use of my dual nationality, I now live in Wellington, New Zealand.

For six years I worked for the BBC, firstly as an editor on publications that back up school TV and radio programmes, then on the BBC Education WebGuide, writing and editing reviews of websites. Before that I worked for another educational publisher editing and managing the production of school textbooks on science, maths, art and design, and information technology. I'm currently working for the New Zealand Ministry of Health as an editor in the Communications section.

I have a Masters degree in Publishing Studies and a Bachelor of Science degree in Ecology which is how I came to the career detailed above. However, I'd really like to be a travel writer so if anyone out there feels like giving me a job as one, get in touch!

Outside work, I enjoy playing softball, maintaining this website and others, taking photos, going to the cinema far more often than is healthy, reading, riding my motorbike and bicycle, and playing whatever other sports grab my interest - variously tennis, badminton, table tennis, five-a-side football and squash - as well as going to the gym now and then. Of course, I also love seeing the world and recording my experiences of it.

To date, I have visited France, Spain, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Greece, Poland, the Czech Republic, Morocco, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, South Africa, the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Indonesia. I suppose I got the travel bug from my Mum who first took me abroad when I was 4, but I've now been to more countries than she has and there are plenty more to see yet.

As well as the articles and diaries on this website, a couple more bits of my writing exist on the Web but don't fit neatly into any of the sub-sections of this website:
