The Afterlife and Times of Professor Binns (G) by Jack Ichijouji. The day Binns woke up dead. Amusing. One shot.
A Broken Branch (G) by Funjin101. Dumbledore attempts to teach Tom Riddle one last lesson before he leaves Hogwarts. The interaction between the two is portrayed quite well. One shot.
A gift for Severus by Dana. Severus returns the presents that Albus has been giving him for years. Unopened. I love Snape in this one. One shot.
Aberforth's Folly (PG) by QuizzicalSpinx. Young Professor Albus comes home for a visit, but what horrors is his brother concocting in his room? Lovecraftian and hilarous. One shot.
All Gone Aside (PG-13) by alianora. What might have happened if the Prank had gone wrong. Bitter. One shot.
Amidst Scarlet and Gold (G) by Lara Bartram. Dumbledore has a talk with Snape after the Shrieking Shack incident. Bitter. One shot.
And the Hat said 'Gryffindor' (PG?) by Ciircee. Young Hagrid explains to Dumbledore just what was going on with the Acromantula and Tom Riddle. He's very well developed in this fic. One shot.
The Broken Victory (PG-13) by Kate Lynn. Tom Riddle at Hogwarts and his connections with Dumbledore and Grindelwald. Awesome. Novel length.
Courage (PG) by Sioniann. Listed as having implied Albus/Harry, but I don't see it myself. The cave scene, from Albus' point of view. Bittersweet. One shot.
Disenchanted (PG?) by Arabella. After Tom's diary is disposed of, Dumbledore goes to have a talk with Ginny. One shot.
Dumbledore, or The Magical Prometheus (PG-13) by marginaliana. A very interesting theory on who--or rather, what--Snape might be. Dark. One shot.
Everybody Knows (PG-13) by koanju. Draco speaks to Dumbledore, and thinks about Slytherin house. I like how we never actually know if Draco did what Dumbledore thinks he did. One shot.
The Forecast for Azkaban (G) by Nineveh. Albus listens to the weather forecast for Rockall Island, and reflects on Bellatrix Lestrange. Short one shot.
Hamartia (PG-13) by Scela Letifer. One mention of het right at the beginning. This fic features Twisted!Dumbledore's intricate schemes as well as what eventually becomes of them. Nice writing. One shot.
June Week (PG-13) by Alchemine. Warning for rape, and there's some het crushing. Minerva McGonagall at Hogwarts, with lots of Tom Riddle and Albus Dumbledore. An excellent, well plotted and characterized fic. Novel length. Its prequels and sequels are also highly recommended: they can be found here, at Alchemine's author page.
The Letter (PG) by Nokomiss. Dumbledore recieves an unbelievable letter. Amusing. One shot.
The Man Who Lived (PG-13?) by Beth H. Whoa. Just.. whoa. It's in second person, from Snape's POV as the good guys prepare to defeat Voldemort. The ending is awesome, and Snape is very IC. One shot. The remix, rated PG, can be found here. Written by Donna Immaculata, it does a wonderful job of reinterpreting this fic in light of OotP revelations.
March 21st, 1991 (G) by AnotherDreamer. Ten year old Harry plays alone on the playground as two others watch him. One shot.
The Penitent Man (R) by Koanju. A missing moment -- the interview in which Snape became Dumbledore's spy. Well characterized. One shot.
Pudding (PG?) by Dana. Dumbledore is forced to fire Snape, but Snape's not angry at all. He even bakes Dumbledore a nice pudding. Funny. One shot.
Sands of Time (PG) by Ariana Deralte. A thousand years ago something inexplicable happened at Hogwarts. Now strange things are happening at Hogwarts again. Creepy, and far more disturbing than it has any right to be. Novel length.
This Side or the Other (PG-13) by The Treacle Tart. There are a few small het references. Albus is dead, and must decide whether to stay in this world as a ghost or go on to the next great adventure. Sweet. One shot.
The Well-Ordered Mind (PG) by Garland Graves. Dumbledore considers his Pensieve, himself, and those around him. Quite well-written. One shot.
Balance (PG) by rabbit. This is one of the first fics I've ever read, and I think it's my favorite. It's also one of the most action-packed stories I've ever read, fan or original. The bad news is that it's a WIP that's most likely abandoned; the good news is that it's almost finished. Novel length.
Eugenics (PG) by foreword. Argus Filch was a good little boy. Sad. One shot.
Every Day This Week (PG-13?) by Predatrix. Pure gen, though there's a non-graphic depiction of masturbation. Severus earns detention with Mr. Filch in his first Flying class. But it's not as horrible as he's been told. Sweet. One shot.
When A Student Becomes A Friend (G?) by Taran. Filch finally meets a student who he likes. Cute. One shot.
The Squib Series (G to PG-13) by Ozma. A very small bit of Filch/McGonagall, mostly near the end. Filch is kidnapped by Death Eaters, learns to use a special part of Hogwarts, finds out what a Squib can do, etc. Ozma really rounds Argus Filch out into a sympathetic, 3D character. I like how she characterizes the rest of the staff, also. This is just a group of very nice, well though out stories, and I would like to see more like them (and Balance). Mostly chaptered fics.
Dueling With Dolts (PG) by shadowycat. Lockhart tries to convince Flitwick to help him with the dueling club. Funny. One shot.
A Nice Cup of Tea and a Lie Down (PG?) by Bernice. Harry and Hagrid talk over a cup of tea. One shot.
Amid the Wreckage (G?) by Jo. Hagrid comes to the wreckage of Godric's Hollow and finds Harry there. Poignant. Short one shot.
And the Hat said 'Gryffindor' (PG?) by Ciircee. Young Hagrid explains to Dumbledore just what was going on with the Acromantula and Tom Riddle. He's very well developed in this fic. One shot.
The Lake At Sunrise (G?) by Ignipes. Professor Kettleburn reads his brother's letters as he walks along the lake. A nice look at a part of the wizarding world we rarely see. One shot.
Acts of Necessity (G or PG) by Jedi Boadicea. Snape washes his hair during second year, with surprise appearance by Lockhart. One shot.
Babbling (G) by Sabrina Lupin. A look at one of Lockhart's classes during CoS. Cute. One shot.
Dueling With Dolts (PG) by shadowycat. Lockhart tries to convince Flitwick to help him with the dueling club. Funny. One shot.
In Memory (PG-13) by Daphne23. What if Lockhart had successfully Obliviated Harry and Ron in the Chamber of Secrets? A good AU with great characterizations and a perfect ending. One shot.
Missa (G) by Mirabella. A series of post-War vignettes. Bittersweet. One shot.
A Little Knowledge (PG) by MusIgneus. Severus explains how he is connected to the prophecy to Minerva. Good reasoning and nice characterization. One shot.
A Little Night Air (PG?) by penknife. Snape and McGonagall, talking as they keep watch from the Astronomy Tower. Thoughtful. One shot.
A Reflection Out of Time (PG) by shadowycat. Snape gets stuck. One shot.
And Yet He Flinched (PG) by H.L.B. Sad, and angsty, McGonagall musing on Snape. One shot.
Balance (PG) by rabbit. This is one of the first fics I've ever read, and I think it's my favorite. It's also one of the most action-packed stories I've ever read, fan or original. Novel length.
Bright Girls Blush (G) by DebbieB. Minerva and Hermione have a talk about Hermione's plans in life. Quite fluffy. One shot.
Bureaucracy (PG) by kittenfic. Minerva has a bit of a rant about OWLs. Short one shot.
Can't Be Held Responsible (PG-13) by Amy Fortuna. One or two crushes are mentioned. Minerva MacDonald reflects on one of the patients under her care. Wonderfully meta. One shot.
Career Advice (G) by Green Eyed Lady. Professor McGonagall holds career advice sessions for Black, Evans, Lupin, Pettigrew, and Potter. Well characterized and illuminating. Chaptered fic.
Dark Avatar (R?) by Julie Fortune. A Slytherin girl is raped at Hogwarts, and Snape and McGonagall must figure out who the attacker was. Dark, obviously. One shot.
First Day of School (PG) by HumanTales. Minerva McGonagall performs a ritual before her first day as Headmistress. Hopeful. One shot.
Green And Red (PG) by Arsenic. Severus and his ongoing relationship with McGonagall. Sweet. One shot.
Gryffindor Colors (PG) by Dreamcoat_mom. Minerva has some trouble getting to sleep after Ron's big Quidditch match. Cute. One shot.
Honour (PG-13) by Josan. Could be read as pre-SS/McG. Snape and McGonagall's relationship, from McGonagall's POV. One shot.
Lesser Languages (PG) by The Treacle Tart. SS/MM, but only if you squint. Minverva learns how to read Severus. Sweet. One shot.
March 21st, 1991 (G) by AnotherDreamer. Ten year old Harry plays alone on the playground as two others watch him. One shot.
Riddles and Rumours (PG-13) by LizBee. Grindelwald threatens Hogwarts, while Prefect Minerva tries to keep order. I like LizBee's explanation for how Dumbledore acquired Fawkes.
The Smallest Slytherin, An Obedient House, and Salazar's Orphans (probably PG-13/R) by Rebecca Webb. Snape seems to be the ladies' man of Hogsmeade *raises an eyebrow*, and there's various non-serious teen romances. This chronicles the adventures of an OFC, Violet Guilford, who's sorted into Slytherin House during Harry's fifth year. (It's not OotP-compliant.) Her Snape strikes me as the way Snape might be about five years after he came to terms with the whole Marauders thing, and I don't see Dumbledore letting him cane his House. Violet rather toes the Sue line at times, though she usually gets called on her behavior. Having said all that, I rather like these stories. If nothing else, there are so many fun little touches -- the cup game, McGonagall and Snape's rivalry, Floo Tag. Rebecca's writing rather improves as the series goes on; for that reason, and perhaps because it focuses more on canon characters, I like the second fic better than the first. Three novel length fics; the third is a WIP.
Where She Stands (G) by amberdiceless. Minerva runs into Severus right after the Pensieve incident. One shot.
Desk Duty (MOM1 by GH ratings) by mosylu. A day in the life of Irma Pince. I like how her character is fleshed out. One shot.
Scars (G) by Winding Path. Neville and Madam Pomfrey have a talk. Bittersweet. One shot.
Darkest Hour (PG?) by Northlight. There's mention of a past hubby. During the war, Poppy Pomfrey becomes disheartened. Angsty. Short one shot.
Herbology Lesson (PG) by Tess. Snape and Sprout have a talk. One shot.
Grim (PG) by Your Cruise Director. Sibyll Trelawney cannot remember her prophecies, but she can remember her dreams. Deep. Short one shot.
Harry Potter's Divination Homework (G) by Tess3. Harry predicts what's going to happen to him over the next month. Amusing. First chapter is Harry's homework; second is the graded version.
Lying in Wait (PG-13) by Simone Alexa. An unexpectedly serious look at a character often relegated to comic relief -- Sibyll Trelawney. Short one shot.
A Pint-Sized Journey (PG) by Garland Graves. Sybil Trelawney drinks, and thinks. Depressing. One shot.
Desk Duty (MOM1 by GH ratings) by mosylu. A day in the life of Irma Pince. I like how her character is fleshed out. One shot.
Fairy Tails Through Cages (PG-13) by Nemo Returning. A book of fairy tales Padfoot gives to Moony, authored by our very own Dolores Umbridge. Funny and snarky. Chaptered.
Purity (G) by Ayla Pascal. Dolores Umbridge has to deal with being the ugly one in the family.
First Day of School (PG) by HumanTales. Minerva McGonagall performs a ritual before her first day as Headmistress. Hopeful. One shot.
Helga fell out of the Muggle world (PG-13?) by Antonia East. Helga Hufflepuff is accused of witchcraft. One shot.
The Last Wyvern (G) by Essy. The Last Wyvern is a fable told by the four founders in an attempt to direct the attentions of their students. Each founder ended the tale at a different point with a different moral and all four versions are recorded here as they appear on page 1267 of Hogwarts: A History. The last story is the best one :). One shot.
Master and Apprentice (PG-13) by Pasi. Salazar Slytherin is chosen to guide someone into death. One shot.
Quid Quid Latine (G) by Elucreh. How the Founders (or to be more accurate, Rowena and Helga) came up with the school motto. Clever. One shot.
Sands of Time (PG) by Ariana Deralte. A thousand years ago something inexplicable happened at Hogwarts. Now strange things are happening at Hogwarts again. Creepy, and far more disturbing than it has any right to be. Novel length.
The School Eternal (PG) by Kaesa Aurelia Secunda. Pure gen at this point, though a Rowena/Godric relationship may be in the works and Helga is married. How Hogwarts was started, featuring Shrew!Rowena, Dumb!Godric, Married to a Werewolf!Helga and Politician!Salazar. Funny, without sacrificing plot. Novel length, WIP.
The Thinking Cap (G?) by Andrea13. How does the Sorting Hat actually make its decisions? Lots of Founders nuttiness. One shot. There are also a string of sequels here.
1975 (PG-13) by Narcissa Malfoy. This has relationships in it, but they're commiserate with everyone being 15 and aren't really the focus of the fic. It's in the middle of being revised to be OotP-compliant, so after the fifth chapter some names change and a subplot is dropped. Novel length. The sequel, Dust and Shadow, has one chapter up now.
The Arithmancer's Apprentice (PG) by Alec Dossestor and Teri Krenek. When Tom Riddle is instructed by his Arithmancy professor to retrieve a certain ring from Mountwarlock Park, he falls into a tangle of danger and political intrigue. I love the world that the authors sketch out here. The sequel is Imperius Quidditch (PG), in which Tom is taken by his mentor to play a ruthless game. Both fics are novel length.
The Durmstrang Chronicles (Rish) by Loup Noir. Okay, this is a bit complicated. The first two are mostly gen; there's bits of (uncondoned by the protagonist) teacher/older student relationships. The later Chronicles tend to be either borderline or not gen at all, but they're all very good. This is the story of the Dark Arts professors at Durmstrang. It's about as dark as the name implies. Full of interesting and well rounded OCs. Novel length fics and one shots.
The Staff of Orkney (PG-13) by Ms. Snape. Professor Severus Snape's cousin, Salazar, comes to teach Defence at Hogwarts. He also carries the Staff of Orkney, a magical device with great powers. Ms. Snape does a good job of giving this OMC a well rounded character, and the plot isn't half bad either. Novel length.
That's What Friends Are For (PG) by Dien Alcyone. The new Defence professor shows up. And he happens to be friends with Snape. (Pause for shock/gasp/horror.) A nice little story. WIP, most likely abandoned.
Two Worlds and In Between (PG-13, may become R later) by Minerva McTabby. This fic includes slash and het relationships, but they're not the whole story. In 1855, Aberforth Dumbledore has just been sorted into Slytherin, and Julius Marvolo decides to take him on as a challenge to Albus. This is a Hogwarts very different from the one we see in Harry's day, though -- for instance, no females have attended for 300 years, and the top families play vicious status games. It's a great read. Chaptered WIP that's updated infrequently.
Uric the Oddball and the Wild Hunt (PG) by Ariana Deralte. It's 1680 and Uric "the Oddball" Beaufolle is starting at Hogwarts. New teachers. New students. New problems. Just how much trouble can an eleven-year old get into? Plenty. Uric is absolutely awesome. Novel length.
A Werewolf's Secret (R) by Kimagure. Sirius, James, and Peter try to figure out what's up with their strange housemate, Remus. The Remus characterization is interesting. AU for OotP, and the timeline of WPP finding out about Remus is kinda screwed up. Novel length, possibly abandoned WIP.
