Classification of humanoids

Specials Humans that were classified as biologically unacceptable, a menace to the pristine heredity of the human race. Declining to migrate may result in being classified a special: thus no longer a member of the mankind. Also called chickenheads if unable to pass the minimum mental faculties test. Some specials have distorted genetic material. The least competent placed in the custody of the Institute of Special Trade Skills of America.
Androids Humanoid robots, organic androids created originally as warriors, then numerous sub-types to accompany colonists. Also called "andys". The most advanced produced by the Rosen Association: with the Nexus-6 brain unit, having two trillion constituents, plus a choice within a range of  ten million possible combinations of cerebral activity. In .45 of a second an android so-equipped could assume any one of four basic reaction postures. Also "The Killers".
Regulars Normal humans: most choosing emigrate to an off-world colony like Mars. Regulars have not been genetically affected by the fallout from WWT. Choosing to leave Earth is encouraged.
Chickenhead Derogatory term for a special: refers to low functioning specials in particular.
Anthead A very deteriorated special

Review:

Personal Review

Score: Surreal

One of the my all time favorite stories. First experienced in the theatrical offering "Blade Runner", the original story is a significant piece of work. PKDs challenges during the crafting of this novel must have had the benefit of his early explorations of the human condition, alien and artificial lifeforms. The shocking challenges of his characters define what it is to be human. The nightmarish, post-apolcalyptic world provides the appropriate setting for the question-bearing title.
