~ SUPPORT LOCAL ONE PROTECTION SERVICES NYU has yet to finish negotiations for new contract with Local 1 , the independent campus security officer’s union.

Don't let NYU try to cut costs by replacing a hard-working union with poorly trained minimum-wage contract guards.

Sub-contract security guards are paid half as much as Local 1 guards, don’t have CPR & fire training, and don’t receive pension or tuition remission for themselves or their families.

Right now, its 250 members are working without contract as a measure of good faith. The university has responded by making percentage changes to pension plans, including a clause which lets the university increase the number of with sub-contracted temporary positions to rise with the in 6.5% increase in the annual pay overall.

NYU Adjuncts Come Together is part of the United Automobile Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America. In recent years tuition, room and board and student services have increased, while the diversity of classes has increased, funding spend on teaching them has diminished.

70% of NYU's faculty are not paid a living wage. According to NYU's handout "Facts About NYU" there are 5,805 faculty of which 4,106 are part-time. The adjunct faculty are commted to and are responsible for a standard of excellence that NYU has become associated with. However, working conditions, salaries and benefits are abysmal.

Adjuncts lack offices and meeting spaces. They have no voice in determining university policy. They want a real living wage, adequate health coverage and childcare, Adequate office space and facilities, Recognition & Respect, Job Security & Rights.
