The second reason is that it contradicts one of our founding beliefs. One
nation under…who was that? … oh, yeah, God. Now let’s take a break for a
quick lesson in theology. God was one person in the Trinity. Is it coming back
yet? In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, the Sign
of the Cross, right? So that means that what Jesus said is what God says/wants.
Than why is it that we are quoting what an old king said, "An eye for an
eye…" when Jesus said, "Love your God above all things. Love thy
neighbor as thyself. Thou shall not kill." Would you rather learn from a
dead Babylonian or a person, and God, that died for you?
That brings up another point, what happened to Jesus. Remember, he didn’t
die of old age. He was put to death by the government. He received a false trial
and was sentenced to death. Several people on death row have been found, with
the help of newer technology, to have been falsely accused. Have we taken the
lives of some innocent people by mistake? Do we look at Jesus as someone who
deserved to die? Was Jesus a monster? No. Why, when Jesus taught us to love one
another, do we kill fellow humans? Perhaps they killed someone, not a small
matter by any token, but why not give them life or some other punishment. We are
not the one to bring judgment, God is. We can have them do community service,
work with out pay for the rest of their life. We do not need to kill them. There
is no need for that except for hatred.
