Short author profile

  • Claudine Hellmuth - U.S.A.
  • She studied art at the Columbus College of Art and Design, and at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, D.C.
  • After completing her senior thesis, a series of oil paintings, Claudine decided to experiment for pleasure, and began to create collages. When she experienced critical encouragement from her teachers and popular demand and acceptance from the public, she set to work, inspired by personal moods, histories and travels. Claudine's art soon created what might be called a cult following among rubber stamping and paper arts groups nationwide. She began to concentrate on this niche market simply by sharing her work and methodologies with these groups. Whether she is teaching creativity and collage all across North America, or generously sharing technique possibilities and artistic philosophies with other artists, Claudine's imagination is in high demand.
  • Claudine's work has been profiled in magazines as diverse as Décor, Art Trends, Somerset Studios, and Expressions. She is also working on a book about her art, scheduled for release from North Light Publishing in 2003.
  • After joining Porterfield's Fine Art Licensing, Claudine Hellmuth began to license her artistic creations to a growing number of publishers and manufacturers who have given her increasing exposure and put her even more in demand as an artist whose work appeals to a broad range of individuals.
  • One reviewer explained that Claudine Hellmuth's: "One could easily weave a story with many of the images in my artworks, but to me that are not quite full-blown stories. They are pieces or fragments of a story…you only get half the story and then you make up the rest."
Claudine works as if the entire world and everything in it are her materials. There is no limit to the spectrum of tools at hand- pastels, acrylics, oils, graphite, images, found objects, colored pencils, and a photocopy machine.
  • Live and work in U.S.A.

"Most of the time, the images and themes reveal themselves to me," she says. "It is rare that I have a preconceived idea of the kind of art I want to make before I make it. I usually start with a color or a background and slowly build the piece from there…it can take me weeks or even months to find all the right pieces for my artworks. I tend to have many pieces in various stages of creation at once."
