Load two shuttles with one color using the Continuous Thread Method.
For a two color bookmark load a third shuttle with a contrasting color. The third shuttle is woven into all of the stitches made by S2 (like hiding an end in the piece) for both versions.
The dimpled heart ring is thrown off the split ring, the instructions for the hearts will appear within [ ].
*SR1 3-2-2-3/5 RW [DR:8-2-4+(to prev. picot, to form dimple)2-8.] RW 5.
SR2 3-2-2-3/2-6-2.*
Repeat pattern between * until bookmark is of desired length.
Ch: 4-3-3-4
In my bookmark, I ended the first row with a ring without a thrown-off heart, so I began the underside with a thrown-off heart. If you end with a thrown-off heart, reverse the ring order.
*SR3 3-2-2-3/5 [DR: 8 + [to SR across] 2 - 4 + (to prev. picot, to form dimple) 2 + (to other
free picot on SR across) 8.] RW 5.
SR4 3-2-2-3/ 2 + (to first picot of heart) 6 + (to second picot of heart) 2.*
Continue until you fill in the bookmark.
Ch: 4-3-3-4.

I found, while tatting the dimpled ring hearts, that if I looped the shuttle thread around my pinky at the inner point of the ring, then finished the ch4, that this loop of thread made it easier to close the dimpled rings. I pulled first the thread at the center point of the ring, then on the shuttle thread to close them.
A printer friendly version of this pattern can be found here.
Pattern revised March 28th.
