In the Beginning:

How we all got here...
  • Apparently a Danish sailor war stranded at Peterhead, married & took his wifes name, Buchan.
  • First found in Aberdeenshire where it is said that they were descended from the Earl of Buchan of the Comyn line, ancient pretenders to the throne of Scotland.

Black lists Ricardus de Buchan as clerk to the bishopric of Aberdeen around 1207.
William de Buchan held land in Aberdeen before 1281.
Sir Thomas de Boghan appears on the Ragman Roll rendering homage to Edward I of England in 1296.
The name Buchan is recorded many times, one of closer times is:
John Buchan born 1875, author of The Thirty-nine Steps. He was also appointed Governor General of Canada in 1935 & was created first Baron of Tweedsmuir.
