Junior Non-Commissioned Officers Course
|

The purpose of the course was to train the cadets in preparation for promotion to the rank of Cadet Corporal. As such some of the work is class room based. covering the theoretical aspects of leadership, and instructional technique. |
It's not all academic and hard work - there was some time for some fun - if nothing more than to let off steam! A "friendly"game of Gaelic Football - a sort of weird cross between soccer and Aussie Rules football, was organised one afternoon. | ![]() |

The victorious JNCO40 "D" Flight - winners of the knockout competition. Thats my kids! |
Another very popular activity was the Fieldcraft exercise day. Designed to be fun as well as an assessment of the cadets Fieldcraft and leadership skills. This picture shows some of the cadets in a "Bridge Building" leadership exercise. The idea is to cross the creek with limited equipment. And, yes, they got across successfully, but "lost" some of the equipment when it "fell" into the creek! | ![]() |

Map and compass skills are essential for these cadets - they will be expected to be able to lead a group of junior cadets while on bush camps. |
And what would a good promotion course be without drill - lots of drill! Here we see the cadets from JNCO 41 "B" Flight (my second week lot) with their Drill Instructor out for a morning march! | ![]() |
