![]() A local paper called Hitliners also had several articles about New Breed. In one article, where they are giving a brief bio on the bandmembers, this is what it said about Timothy in it's Sept 30, 1966 issue: "Tim Schmit--bass guitar and vocalist: Born October 30. 1947 in Oakland, California. Attends American River College. Placed 2nd in High School Gymnastic Championships. Member of Sacramento Athletic Hall of Fame. ![]() In 1969, with the name of the band now Glad, they recorded an album in LA. They group ended up having almost no control over the production and arrangements of the songs. They were so unhappy with what the record company was doing that at one point Timothy quit the band but ended up coming back a few weeks later. It was around this time that Poco was interested in Timothy. This is from a Rolling Stone article from May, 1971 (the article was about Redwing, which was the name of the band after Timothy left it):" Tim had returned to the group, but now Poco's Richie Furay was seen hanging around. It seems Poco was interested in a bass player and they liked the look of Tim Schmit. True enough, he was a good one, and at this point it was fairly clear to everyone but the band itself, that Glad was merely a showcase for Tim's vocal gymnastics. He was after all, the lead singer, an A-1 bass player, and the cute-looking one of the group. The band had built their sound around him, and Poco and Furay liked what they heard. " Timothy did stay with Glad a while longer but when the album did so poorly, everyone knew he was going to leave the band. According to Rolling Stone again: "They all knew that it was only a matter of time before Tim packed off for LA permanently". Per Ron Floegel in that same article: "When Tim left for good, we didn't even know it. We thought he was going down to LA to talk to Poco some more. We thought they had a bass player, but I guess they really wanted Tim."
