*This column represents Adjusted Wins, according to the "POTYOS" formula.

Starting in 2003, each team will play only 45 interleague games; in other words, 72.2% of their games will be against teams "their own size," and only 27.8% against the other league.  However, for this season the schedule has not yet been balanced in that way.  The "Pick On Teams Your Own Size" formula attempts to take this imbalance into account.

For each team, we take its winning percentage against teams from its own league and multiply it by .722, and we take its winning percentage against teams from the other league and multiply that by .278.  Then we add the two results together to get a weighted winning percentage.  Finally, multiplying by the current number of games played gives an estimate of the number of wins which that team would have under a balanced 2003-style schedule.

 

Six of the eight playoff teams would have made the postseason under the old American and National Leagues.  The division champions and wild cards:
