Comment to our musical score

Music, that sounds now, is a song "The Turn-out" from reportoir of Russian popular group "The Time Machine". At the first time we have heard it in the middle of 70-s. Its well-known refrain -

"It's new sharp bend in way.
                                           Motor auful raves.
                                           What will be next day?
                                           Downfall or plane,
                                           Weel or saving wade?
                                           You don't understand
                                           Until work round bend."

we understood then as "a veer in our life" only.

And now, looking at James Bond, who is in hand with his BMW 750iL using sensory control board, we remembered this song again. May be it has happened because "the tournout" took place in our country 10 years ago and we could already understand, what it has brought us.

And again the book "James Bond. The Secret World of 007" helps us. We perform the next piece out of the book with a pleasure.

Remote Control

None of Bond's cars can compare for hi-tech gadgetry with the BMW 750 iL saloon he drove on the Tomorrow Never Dies mission. In addition to a fortress-full of firepower, it could be driven by remote control using a pad hidden in a mobile phone.

The BMW also had an anti-theft system that both immobilizied the vehicle and derivered an electric shock powerful enough to knock any thief of his feet. In the forlorn hope of getting the car back "in pristime order", Q included a safety feature he hoped would appeal to Bond: a dulcet female voice reminding him to fasten his seatbelt. However, as Q knew only too well, 007 never put safety first.

Q shows, how to control this car, and the link to the article about him

Beautiful and New

Q demonstrated how to drive the BMW by remote control by moving his finger around a pad inside a special mobile phone. "Let's see how she responds to my touch", said Bond.

Backseat Driving

To drive the BMW, Bond opened up his mobile phone and started the engine by tapping twice on a central pad. He then drew his finger around the pad to steer.

Backseat Driving

1 - Antenna detached and functioned as a lock pick, 2 - Video screen showed view though windscreen as recorded by video camera behind driver's mirror, 3 - Hinged lid, 4 - Touch-sensitive pad, 5 - Buttons activated defence systems, 6 - Electrodes gave powerful electric Shock.

Extra Security

Extra Security

A safe and a spare Walther PPK were in the glove compsrtment. The lock only responded to 007 fingerprint.

      1 - Spare gun, 2 - Safe, 3 - Fingerprint ID.

Chain Cutter

Chain Cutter

A steel chain was no barrier to the BMW. At the touch of a button a motorized cutter appeared beneath the bonnet logo that could shear through steel.

Rocket Power

Rocket Power

The BMW's most powerful weapon was a rocket launcher system in the sunroof holding 12 heat-seeking missiles.

      1 - 12 missiles, 2 - Blast plate, 3 - Launcher rose out of tilt-and-slide sunroof assembly.

Sharp Shocks

Sharp Shocks

A tray dispensed four-pronged metal spikes to rip an enemy car's tyres to shreds.

1 - Spikes neatly stored on top of one another, 2 - Spikes.

Blow-up

Blow-up

The car had re-inflatable tyres - useful when bullets were flyiing. The System was controlled by 007's phone or from the dashboard. Rubber solution was sprayed around inside the tyre by centrifugal force as the wheel spun, sealing punctures. Compressed air then re-inflated the tyre.

      1 - Rubber solution, 2 - Compressed-air cylinder.

Making Smoke

Making Smoke

A smoke and tcar-gas discharge mechanism was concealed behind panels in the trim on each side.

      1 - Replaceable smoke and CS gas canisters, 2 - Spring-loaded flap, 3 - Retractable nozzles.

Temper, Temper

Temper, Temper

Unable to gain entry, Stamper made no impression on the bodywork with a flame-thrower.

Emergency Exit

Emergency Exit

Pursued by Carver's thugs, Bond was forced to make a speedy exit off the roof of a multi-storey car park - a drop that even the BMW's state-of-the-art construction was unable to withstand.
