Who can tell about Q, his miracles and MI-6 better, than the
British themselves? And again - the book

"James Bond. The Secret World of 007" comes to the rescue and helps us. We hope, this
publication will be a good advertising for it!

For years the brilliant, eccentric, yet immensely likeable Major
Boothroyd, known simply as "Q", worked his magic behind the scenes at MI-6. Whenever escape seemed
impossible, agent after agent - even 007, though he would probably never admit it - owed their
lives to this wizard of technology. Q never expected gratitude; all he hoped was that his
meticulously crafted machines would be returned "in pristine order". This survey of some of his
less well-known inventions, displays just a fraction of the breadth and originality of his work of
	  Q Branch.

	  Q è 007

Q took his work seriously and was irritated by Bond's frivolous
quips. "Now pay attention, Double-O-Seven," he would sigh as, like a weary schoolmaster, he began
to brief Bond on his latest invention. Bond rarely seemed to be listening, but Q knew, that he had
an intuitive grasp of how to get the very best from any new equipment. Q's only real complaint was
that hardly a single item ever came back impact.

	  Octopussy mission.

On several of 007's missions, Q set up workshops to be close to the
action. For the The Spy Who Loved Me assignment, his base was hidden deep inside an Egyptian pyramid.

"Thought, I'd pop round" - Q risked M's wrath by helping out 007
when the latter went AWOL in central America during the License to Kill mission. Here he shows
Bond's friend, Pam Bouvier, a polaroid camera that fires a laser beam.

(Let's remember, that neither Q nor even the British invent laser -
but the Soviet physicists Basov and Prohorov have done it. They became the Nobelists due to this
discovery. Basov died recently. Prohorov is living, he celebrated his 85-years jubilee in the
middle of July 2001 and continues his work in the field of physics. - K.E.)

	  Watch This!

One of Q's great skills was his ability to incorporate exotic
features - a laser beam, a rapelling line, a buzzsaw - into 007's various "standard issue" watches.

Bond used Q's rapelling watch to escape death during The World Is
	  Not Enough mission.

At the press of a button, Q's gondola converted into a turbo-powered
hovercraft. It helped 007 escape pursuit on the Venice canals during the Moonraker mission.

Not being a pop-music fan, Bond never found a use for Q's
Ghetto-Blaster. It typified Q's genius for concealing weapons in everyday objects.

"A new pet, Q?" Bond inquired, raising an eyebrow. Q tested this

Bond had to run for cover.
