Sometimes Diane makes judgements about people, but she's only human. Everyone judges people, whether they admit to it or not. And, we have seen great examples of how she does that in her treatment of Kelly. Even though she wasn't exactly pleased with what Kelly had done, and was disgusted with how someone could act like that, she didn't let that affect how she dealt with Kelly at all.
We can see her sense of humour particularly when she's with Ric or Zubin, or especially when the three of them are together. She's often teasing Ric - a prime example being the scene in By Any Other Name, where, even though she's feeling sick, she still manages to tease him about not wanting to operate on a man because "it's a bit too close to the bone for you boys... no pun intended."
She's only human, and of course she wants to get what she wants. However, she does consider other people before she does this - in Loss Of Faith, when she wanted to operate on a patient, she listened to Zubin's point of view before doing anything, and, if Tom hadn't have interfered, she would have respected Zubin's point of view and not gone ahead with it. However, she then went ahead with the operation only because Tom told her to disregard Zubin. As for doing it by "batting her eyelids", the only example I can think of where she's done that is when she went out with Tom. Everyone makes mistakes, and she was definitely in a bad place at that point. Someone she had dated had just died, and she'd just had a termination. Going out with Tom (which, I may add, was his suggestion) was a way to forget her problems for a while. She wasn't doing it just to further her career, she was doing it because she actually wanted to just forget about her troubles for a little while. (And I just realised how bad "doing it" actually sounds...)
This pretty nicely leads on to the point of being sycophantic towards the important people. I think she is just generally quite a flirty person, and that's how she acts around people. Maybe at first, she was going with Tom to the charity thingy to do some "networking", but she did actually like Tom. In the end, her only reason for going out with him wasn't to further her career, but to help her friend (Alex). She went out on a second date with him to talk to him about Alex's Parkinson's, and she invited him to Paris to say thank you for considering giving Alex a second chance. And as for flirting with Ric now, she used to date him, she's very close to him, and she loves him hehe! He once commented (in Endgame) that he was afraid that he was holding her back, which suggests that she isn't only friends with him to further her career, and is in fact putting her career on hold to be with him.
She seems to be quite weak when she lets her guard down. We saw this especially in Think Again, when she found out that she was pregnant - especially when she told Ric that it would have been "easier if you were there with me". She's constantly doubting her own skills, and wants Ric's praise and reassurance that she's doing alright. She doesn't seem an overly confident person at all.
