| March 11, 2001 Two Days left If you read yesterdays entry, today's will seem boring.. but here it is.Today was a late rise for the team. For some unknown reason just about all of us woke up with a mysterious headache and a queasy stomach. coincidence.... maybe. We all got together and went to Brad's house for supper. As said before Brad's mom makes the best Spaghetti. We all then watched the Brier. It was a good game, both teams played well and the best team won. After that We went to practice at the club, shot a few rocks and talked about last night :) and then went home to try and catch up on some lost sleep. | March 12, 2001 The Last Day One more day, just one more day. Today was a bit of a relaxing day, exciting day but relaxing. We had a practice at the club, had a couple pepsi and headed home to pack. 11:30pm isn't a good time to start packing when you are leaving 7:20am. But any way stay tune to the journal for the exciting adventures form the Brad Gushue Team. Quote for Today "get me clear of this @#$& snow" Todays New Word "The Sultan" (Ask Trickett) |
| March 13, 2001 Here We Come Today was a very early rise, considering that our flight was scheduled to depart @ 7:20am, we all had to be up with the birds. But under the circumstances, no one had any trouble getting out of bed. Brent was the first to arrive at the airport. It was the first time this year that he was early for anything. Next was Mike, Mark, Jeff, and Jamie. Jamie came in through the door with two plastic shopping bags on his feet???? He said that "It's so my feet wont get wet"..... After a 40 minute delay we were air born. The next stop was Toronto. We met up with our team leaders from the CCA, and The national girls team from P.E.I. OH Goodie. Going through customs was a bit of a pain but we all made it through. The next flight was a 4 hour trip to Denver, we had a half hour stop over there and then headed to Salt Lake City, By the time we got to Salt Lake Mike was after losing his sweater twice, but managed to get it back thanks to his team. Jeff on the other hand lost his cap, and unlike mike he thinks its somewhere between St. John's and Toronto. We left the airport in a minivan and headed to our final destinatin OGDEN. Once in Ogden we checked into the hotel and shortly after headed to the "kickoff" dinner at Eccles Conference Center. They had some great food their, but as you know we are on the "program"(health food). We went to bed early, we was tired. | Day 1 Ogden 6:15 is a very early time to wake up in the morning. Until now I didn't no there was a 6:15 in the morning, by was I wrong. We had practice at 8:00am. The ice has about 31/2 feet curl and is running about 25. It is really nice. but not as good as Peter Russells ICE :) We have meet most of the countrys and Mikes head seems to be on a swivel. We had a little photo session and then headed to the hospitality tent for some good Utah Eatin. Food good. Me happy. About 4:00 we had team meetings. They just went over the rules of play and exlained to Mark that you actualy have to let the rock go before the nearest hog line, not he farthest. After a great meal (the food here is good by) we headed to the Egyptian Theater for the Opening ceramony. They were pretty good. They had a Blue grass band playing the western music. They had a cool show with old western cowboys shooting real guns with real fake bullets. Bang Quote for today "CAUTION: birds in trees..... birds will be birds Todays new word "rabio" (radio) |
| Day 2 Ogden What can we say other than its over and forget about it. We had subway for lunch, that was good, we played hotshots golf, that was good, we play USA, that wasn't good. Draw weight eluded us for most of the game. We missed a few key shots that proved to be the difference. Brad was left with some tough shots, he made some and missed some. They had a few lucky breaks but still played well. We play the Suisse in the morrning and Japan tomorrow evening. We just have to put todays game behind us and focus on our next 8 games. After the game we took it easy and went to the Spagetti House, the waitress there said that Mark was a cutie :) i think he is cute too but anyway. Tonight we had a practice for a half hour to work out all the bugs, every thing is looking on the up and up. So cross your fingers and keep the fire lit. Oh, most of you know what kind of team we are... We pulled some pranks on the US girls team, we took their mattress, clothes, and a bag. Their team rep gave us an ear full. But the girls didn't mind it. Anyway we have to be good little boys or we will get in trouble. Oh by the way it was Brad's, and Mike's idea. | Day 3 Ogden It was a long day, but a good day for Team Canada. We had a Big Busser Breakfast at 7:00am. At 8:30am we took on the Swiss, which was a game we had to win. The guys really came together for this one and showed what they were made of. After the game we went to Roosters for lunch and learned about Newton's First Law of Physics, "Food in motion tend to stay in motion"!! When we go out in public, we all dress the same. Not yet has anyone asked us "Are you curlers??" We've got "You must be on the Bobsled team!" or "Are you on the ski team?" At the airport a lady asked if the world junior curling championships was a hairstyling competition!! Our next game was against Japan, this game set the mood for the rest of the week. We had to win, so we did!!! They had their chances as did we. In the 7th end, they are lying four, with hammer, and it looks like they are gonna get a big end. But on Mark's last shot, he makes a triple take out and stole one and went on to win!! If the boys need anything during the game, Jamie gets it. This game, Mike wanted a powerade, so Jamie gets him one and throws it to him. Mike used to be a goalie in hockey, I can see why he curls now. He missed the drink, it broke open and went all over the carpet, boards, Brent, the rocks and a bit of the ice. What A Mess!! Todays new word "Pocahauntaus" Quote for today "Thats a nice pager. Actually it's an insulin pump" |
