ISP opportunities abounded in Little Rock while Gold 4 workied at the Children't Hospital. The few members that had to fulfill their POC position did so, and almost everybody either filled or went above the required hours. Pinnacle Mountain, The Outreach Program, The Ronald McDonald House and the American Red Cross were the organizations that Gold 4 was fortunate enough to work with during their short stay in Little Rock.
Pinnacle Mountain had a volunteer day where a few of us helped clean up the picnic areas and helped begin the set up for a Fall Festival. The day was beautiful and it was nice to return to the site of our very first project. We accomplished all that was on the agenda for the morning.
Two members of Gold 4 attended a Car Seat Safety demonstration with the Outreach Program. They helped set up and break down the exhibit and aided in the demonstration.
The Ronald McDonald House was having a Garage Sale that we were asked to help set up. We cleared out a hallway and one room full of boxes and clothes that were donated to raise money for the House. With the help of the Junior ROTC, we cleared out the room in no time, and organized the tables outside with the items for sale. Some of us walked away with a bunch of free stuff - tee shirts, sneakers, books - all for our volunteer efforts. Oh, and don't forgt the free pizza dinner!
Gold 4 had the great opportunity to work with the American Red Cross on two separate occasions. The first was a weekend-long Blues Festival in Little Rock along the river. The second was the Wind-Ding Chicken Festival in Jacksonville that brought local businesses together to reaise money for their organization. During both events, Godl 4 assisted the medics. We were on the lookout for any kind of injury. In the 42 total houts for both events, we put to band-aids on kids and removed one splinter. The work was slow, but both events were entertaining and worth the time spent.
All except for one miscommunication with the Central High volunteer program (the lady was kind of mean and bossy), Gold 4 had great luck finding so many awesome ISPs. We were blessed with the chance to see some more of the community we worked in for two projects. We also got to meet some super people along with seeing some old friends.
