Field Report #4

I am mesmerized every day by what I have been observing from my secluded perch a top the mountain. This species, undetected until now, has proved to be the most fascinating discovery of my career.

They have somewhat western traits but their behavior and interaction is unlike any I have ever seen. They consistently wear distinctive, yet identical gray shirts with something that looks like a large A on their shoulders. They randomly break into fits of hyena-type laughter which cause some of them to convulse onto the ground in a state of hysterics. One female species sounds her cry every morning around the same time, sounding much like a fog horn blowing in the night. This is always proceeded by a loud, wretching hack. Could this be some kind of mating call? I should watch and listen to that one more closely. They all have these ear devices that they wear around their heads, sometimes swaying and singing when they think no one is observing them, lost in a trance - like state of bliss and concentration. Many times I have almost been spotted, as many of them occasionally find their ways up the mountain, armed with what looks to be notebooks or other forms of reading and writing materials. They seem quite connected but each seems to need a lot of time alone. One other female wears a strange contraption on her middle finger while another's hair has freakishly changed color overnight. Perhaps she is trying to blend in to the spring vegetation sprouting out around her? I wonder if it turns white in the winter to blend in with the snow? Another male has also changing hair, is often seen pounding into another un-suspecting male who lest out these low-guttural sighs and seems to rub his stomach a lot, repeating the words, 'get in my belly.' Very strange indeed.

On one occasion, I found all of them in a circular formation very early in the morning performing some kind of ritual stretch. Could this be a form of exercise? Speaking of exercise, I have observed two other females taking violent falls while running through the woods. Do they do this intentionally or are they just suffering from a chemical imbalance, which prevents them from running upright? One of the males is exceedingly tall and is often seen promenading the grounds with both fists tightly poised into his pockets. It seems that he is carrying a new book everyday. Maybe his is the medicine or wiseman of the tribe?

Another strange ritual they have is to make jumpy movements to each other during the night hours, provoking high-pitch squeals from members who seem to be rather skittish, especially one particular female with blond hair. One petite female member of the tribe seems to always have her hand in a kind of bag. Pulling out bright orange objects and eating them. They seem to leave and orange hue around her mouth and lips when she is done.

They drive away in the mornings using a large, blatantly blue vehicle. One of them always gets out and begins a dance behind the wheels flailing their arms around wildly, as if beckoning the vehicle to pull out if its harbor. Quite interesting. They come home around the same time but they look quite different from the morning. They are very dirty and look tired as they stumble silently out of their vehicle. Yet, they all seem to have this glow or aura around them. It almost looks something akin to confidence, accomplishment. I wish I could travel with them to see what could make them both dirty and so happy at the same time. I have explored many different tribal cultures in my time but none have been so unique and as functional as this.
