Gaits to Success

During our stay in Mississippi, we alternated weeks working at the shelter and at a place called Gaits to Success. Gaits is a therapeutic riding program- children who have been injured, or have certain diseases ride the horses. It helps them with their posture and coordination. We didn't have much interaction with the children - they only had lessons one day a week, so only a few of us got to see the program in action. Mostly, we did maintenance in the pasture and around the barn. Barbara, the woman who runs the place, never seemed to run out of things for us to do - from cleaning horse poop out of the stalls (Jen's favorite) to putting up a new fence - there were always things to keep us busy. The horses were quite beautiful, and pretty friendly - I guess when you have apples to share they're always nice, but overall it was a pretty cool place.
