Sea island Habitat for Humanity
This project tested my reasoning for helping SIHFH in AmeriCorps. At first things were okay, we stayed productive by digging out and laying cement for a couple foundations, we did a little insulation and heaved brush and wood to be burned. About 2 weeks into our project our sponsor "Big George" unexpectedly quit, and things from that point on seemed to go downhill. At the time the work we were doing was crap work, we dug tons of dirt making "swells" & driveways, we did a lot of landscaping with dirt and roots, we moved wood more than anybody could know. We didn't feel like we were being as productive as we should have been. By our 5th week there I really had to rethink the reason I am here and justify the work we were doing. The last coupld of weeks were good, we worked on several different houses doinf many different things. I learned a lot from this project. Not as mich as I would have liked to knowledge wise, but I will carry what I have larned forever. I think if we wouldn't have been told that we would be helping build eight homes, to help them get their grant, I wouldn't have felt as unproductive while digging dirt and moving wood. This has been a learning experience that I will definitely look back on.
