When people began talking about our Se Island portfolio, and tossed around creative ideas, I was always thinking that soon I will have to write about my experience working on John's Island. Unlike our other project, I could never come up with any moment, idea, or person that had a great impact on me during our time working with Habitat for Humanity. Our overall experience wasn't spectacular. We moved materials, mostly dirt and wood, cleared brush, prepared for weekend volunteers, and in our final days we were able to participate in building homes. So, instead of focusing on my time spent at Murraywood and Island estates, i have decided to write about the time that I spent away from my team.
About 2/3 of the way through this project I made a trip home. It was something that I was looking forward to almost from the time I arrived in Charleston. Home to me is New York, but more than that it is family, friends, and good times. The trip exceeded my expectations. i was so happy to be there, in familiar surroundings with the people I care about.
However, something totally unexpected was happening while I was there. While I was in a restaurant or in a shop, I would find myseld thinking about Gold 4 and what they were doing in Charleston and John's Island. I was curious about the blitz build, the volunteer house, and generally, just how everyone was doing. It wasn't until I spent time away from the team that i realized how much a part of my life they had become. From this trip, I now know that I don't need to got o NY to be abound family, friends and familiar surroundings, because I have it all in Gold 4.
