The Barn
I never thought working in a building could be so much fun - the people you work with truly make a difference. Our team was divided up into mini-teams, and six of us worked with Art, one of the coolest cats ever, building pre-builds for the houses to make the framing go a lot faster. Amelia, Jesse, Jessica, Hillary, Thomas, and I nailed together sills, beam pockets, headers - all were used in the actual house and it was cool to see them go up with the rest of the house during the blitz builds. Everyday was so much fun, almost like it wasn't work . . . just us hanging out together doing some building. Hillary dancing to the classic rock, Amelia swinging her little leg on top of the headers, Thomas getting the nails in with 2-3 hits, Jessica always right there to tell us what lest needed to be constructed for the pre-build to be complete, Jesse sticking pencils through his ear and wrestling with Hillary, and me being being taken away with those green glasses - man, what beauties they were! Art was always reminiscing about his younger days, riding motorcycles abd the way it was in the days of free love. He said that working with us made him feel twenty years old again - he even stayed with Habitat because of us and left the day we did. Overall, I think everyone that worked in the barn loved it - not necessarily the work, but the people were awesome. I'll never forget the times that were had in that barn on Sea Island.
