This simplified map of the
Geology shows the limits of the Granite
that forms the bulk of the Hill. The Granite is the South Easterly limit
of the outcrop that forms Bodmin Moor. The heat and pressure of the
intrusion has altered the Upper Devonian rock that surrounds the moor.
This has left a metamorphic Aureole of about four mile width around the
Granite mass.
The stress caused by the
intrusion and subsequent cooling caused fissures than became the Lodes
of minerals the mines exploited, Theses trend in a East Westerly direction
with Tin being found North of the Hill and Copper to the South
.
