A Blessing
Native American Indians

This page is not about the Picininny Tribe that was listed by Mr. Barrie as the foes and later friends of Peter Pan, as no such tribe existed in the United States (although the information is rather sketchy for Neverland). This page is then slanted toward (with some editorial comment)the actual Indian Nations that exist in the United States today, and are a part of our culture.

Editorial Comment: For those of you who may have been here before, I read what was here...and immediately went out and burned my soap box...I will refrane in the future form going on so....for you new to the page, thank your stars you missed it - Ted

teepee America were populated during the time of the great ice ages when the sea from the Asian continent and the western world was frozen, and the nomadic tribes could cross. As the glaciers melted and the ice receded, the water levels along the shores rose driving the animals as well as the people to the interior of the country. The tribes existed both as hunter/gatherers but also started to develop an agricultural bases for survival. The people were very aware of the abundance of the earth and knew that maintenance of the earth was required for existence.
A large number of the myths and legends began in that understanding of the working of nature. At this time, many of the tribes moved away from the nomadic life and established communities that flourished. These peoples were still mobile, moving as did the game (in the case of the hunter/gather types tribes) or as the land wore out, for the agricultural based tribes. However, these move were not frequent or over great distances. The tribes also began to join together during this time to form many of the great nations.

The myths and legends of the Native Americans are attached to the way of life they led, close to nature as hunters or as farmers raising crops. I will present more in this are in the future but for now please enjoy;

Hunters of the Northern Forest - Cree

When the white settlers came to the America's, the world of the Indian changed forever. It still is in flux today as the tribe return to their cultures and explore the legal ramifications of there positions within this country.
