Around Syracuse - February 2002 This hilltop view reminds me of a scene from the Sound of Music (except it's over a city instead of countryside), but the way the kids are standing it looks kind of like a 60's or 70's rock album cover.

Downtown from a hilltopThe university sits on top of a hill. I'll never forget the sensation of coming out of the Carrier Dome after a basketball victory and piling down that big snow-covered hill with a huge, happy crowd, walking--and falling--down to the parking lots below! Downtown is to the left, the northern suburbs are farther left, and the eastern suburbs (where we live) are over and beyond the hill.

Syracuse University - on the HorizonThese falls, about 25 miles east of Syracuse, are about 2/3 the height of Niagara Falls but only a tiny fraction of the width. The trail to the bottom is closed in winter due to dangerous ice, so I could only get this picture of the very top. A full view would be much more magnificant!
