The
purpose of this site is to share my experience traveling in my Dodge
Cummins pickup and Bigfoot slide in camper. Eventually I would like to
add a bulletin board for people to ask questions about pickup campers. In the meantime, if

Why I Wanted
a Pickup Camper - the seed was planted while living in Oaxaca, Mexico
Bigfoot camper
Three years of research and looking. Size, weight issues. Options.
Things that might seem necessary, but aren't
Basement,Full sized shower, A/C? (might be glad later),
Things that could/should have been done better
Thermostat location, Outside lights with inside switches, accessory outlet in/near
dinette, remote for electric jacks on wrong side, telephone/cable TV outlets instead of
just cable TV outlets, bad outside shower fixture, toilet paper holder poorly placed,
water pump not properly adjusted, screw impossible to reach, cab-over wardrobe should have
shelves instead of worthless hangar rack, and should go to floor instead of bottom of
door. Shower needs better on/off valve - on/off/on makes turning off hit or miss
proposition.
Wish List
diesel hot water heat (that can be quick-connected to truck's cooling system)
instead of propane, Pack-a-sport for roof (for items too long to store over dinette)
Dodge pickup truck
Ford had 3 doors, but they put the 3rd door on the wrong side. Oh my god, 4 doors! Time to
bite the bullet!
Things that could/should have been done better
Gauges - egt, boost, fuel pressure differential.� Fuel door lock, Tailgate lock (ford
has one), Seat height (too high), Storage bins in rear doors. Power vent windows. Power
rear window. Better head/backup lights height adjustable from cab. Separate switch for bed
light (Chevy has one). Mirrors that don't vibrate (everybody else has them).
Wish List
Memory seats/mirrors, Better automatic transmission, 2 wheel low setting, extending
mirrors (ford has em), tow hooks (ford has em), Espar diesel water heater
Break in and maintenance things I've picked up.
On oil changes, On synthetic oil and filters
Accessorize!
Rhino Lining, ventvisors, bug shield, bed rail protector, running boards, 6 disk changer,
headlight covers, diamondplate rear stoneguard, hitch accessories, AMSOIL dual remote,
Aires grille & brushguard(Rhinoed), 4 hella 4000's, Aero underseat tray, Zenon fender
flairs, rancho 9000's |
