The Rowan Gorilla 2, on location at Sable Island in 1999. This is a jackup rig that has three legs that sit on the seafloor. It is drilling over the Venture Platform (yellow). After the wells are drilled the rig will leave, but the Venture platform stays in place. A module will be put on top of the Venture platform for the production facility and worker accomodation |

Rig workers go back and forth to the rig usually by helicopter. They work 1 to 4 weeks at a time. In northern areas workers are required to wear heavy insulated suits. |
