About the award

Please note that we are no longer giving out awards, this page is here as a monument to TelevisionCity and the Community Leaders.

The TelevisionCity Excellence Award is an award for the best Television sites at Yahoo! GeoCities. It is given to sites that are interesting, entertaining or informative and to homesteaders who show a good knowledge of HTML and Webdesign.

You can apply for the award by filling out our application form. Be sure to read the guidelines before applying. Also, sometimes sites will be nominated by the TelevisionCity Community Leaders.

The winners will get a special award graphic to place on their website. They will be notified via e-mail of where to get their award graphic and how to join the Award Winners Webring.

The Guidelines

Your site has to fit the theme of TelevisionCity. If your site is about a TV releated topic (e.g. TV shows, TV stars, etc.), you're allowed to apply.
Your site has to be absolutely free of content violations. If you're not sure about this, ask a Community Leader or read the Content Guidelines
There has to be a valid, working, easy-to-find e-mail address on your site or another way to reach you personally (e.g. a contact form)
Your site has to be well developed. Incomplete sites or pages just displaying "Under Construction" messages are not allowed.
Sites with just a list of links are not accepted for any of our awards.
Your site has to be well designed: good looking (professional) graphics, a nice and unique layout, appropriate font types and sizes, appropriate background
Your site should show good knowledge of HTML and other technologies (e.g. Cascading Style Sheets)
The navigation has to be comfortable and easy to use (like links in frames, drop-down menus, back links, etc.)
Your site should be interesting for its target audience; it should consist of original, interesting material
No linking to pictures, midis, etc. on other sites without permission of the owner
Broken images or hyperlinks are not accepted
Multimedia enhanced websites are very welcome, as long as they use standard multimedia technologies (i.e. no exotic plug-ins should be required to view the page). Examples for good Multimedia use: Flash animations, Java Applets, Sounds (Midi, WAV, RealAudio, MP3), Video (QuickTime, AVI, RealVideo, MPEG)
JavaScripts should be used to add "functionality" to the site, not to create irritating effects
We like sites with interactivity, for example: chat, quizlets, polls, guestbook, message boards, contests, awards, downloads
Sites just copied from other sites are not accepted
Heavy load time is not very welcome, but some sites may need to load longer, because of things like Java Applets, Sounds, Video or Flash animations, so if you use these things on your site, heavy load time is accepted.
Your site should be viewable with most browsers (Netscape, Internet Explorer, Opera) and on all platforms (Windows, MacOS, Linux)
Basically, the general impression is what counts. We understand that many people like to make use of newer web technologies to realize their ideas and as long as the result is a quality site, it is qualified for this award. On the other hand, many webmasters like to keep their pages as simple as possible, to make it available to a big audience. Where others use graphics as page titles they use simple text. Again, what counts is the general impression and most important, the content behind all the technical stuff.
