I am the sole-soul member of TIMEKODE. A futuristic, maverick of a female, called Deni. Behind the scenes however, are a talented team of serious academics, who provide back-up. I act as 'interface' & use speech-synthesis systems which are not yet commercially available, alongside conventional equipment to make music. After every recording session, all personnel evacuate, & the 'kit' is disassembled! The software involved is not supple; is buried in much-used application; is customised; & has an obscure function, with incomplete documentation. The music is artificial & not human in origin at all. TIMEKODE is a combination of science & the arts: logic & emotion.
The 'Black Box Teknology' is based on the model of a human throat, & all prototypes blow-up or fuck-up eventually! (I find this amusing, whilst my colleagues weep at the prospect, & the financiers become positively suicidal.) One particular early system, with a voice recognition facility, phoned me up: 12 times in a single day. This proved to be an ass-ache, as it had a very l-i-m-i-t-e-d chat menu. How sweet though... it rang me up on my birthday & sang 'Happy Birthday' with all it's heart! (Actually, it sang 'Happy Berday' as it failed to master a 'th' sound.) It later developed a stutter, & a lisp, which did disappear. It began to run all it's words together, without any pauses, & so initiate gobbledegook! It became stuck in one mode where all it would say was: 'Is your husband a decorator?' To my peril, I discovered it could do a decent impression of being drunk & abusive, besides saying tongue-twisters with remarkable speed!
Another prototype was totally silent for 3 months; no-one could get it to say anything, let alone sing! When it eventually shuddered into life, it displayed an on screen message of: 'I'm not in right now. Please try later.' A further system showed a message: 'Error diagnosis.' Asked what this meant, it replied: 'Wrong first time.' The same system, when confronted with the phrase: 'I think therefore I am' said: 'I think therefore I'll think about it.' I call this the beginnings of 'Emergent Behavoir' - the neural network of machines that will KNOW!
The radical 'kit' enables you to reproduce the voice of anyone, living or dead, with realism & accuracy. (Alas, not quickly, easily, nor cheaply.) The cutting edge of the new teknology will challenge preconceptions of copyright law. What TIMEKODE is doing in its infancy, & I hope to illuminate the relevance & impact of Vox Science, by being on board with tomorrows teknology today!
I can put words in your mouth...... & create your alter-ego!
Without your consent. Even without your knowledge.
Your vox could be next.
It's only a question of time.
