"I'm not having that girlie blast us all to smithereens if there's the slightest chance of this storm lifting." - Eliot Creasy

Sara records a communication for Bob, telling him of their situation. She is frightened and worried that the captain isn't telling the truth and that he does not know how long the crisis will last.

Finbow briefs James, who is about to take the next watch in Comcen. Finbow complains about Eliot's attitude and that he is more interested in drinking than taking any action. James tells Finbow to get some rest as his body is reacting to the iodine 5, but Finbow warns James not to trust Petra before he leaves. Chantal contacts the bridge and asks James if she can come up to see him.

Herlinde is finding Anna's behavoir irritating. Anna is having a spiritual crisis and tells Herlinde that she should change her lifestyle.

Chantal joins James in Comcen. She wants to send a charge across the comms antennae to find out if the storm will react. She needs to know if the storm is 'alive', but James thinks they should consult Eliot first.

Melody has drawn the short straw and is complaining about having to sleep on the floor in their new, cramped quarters. Herlinde arrives with a sleeping bag and squeezes in next to Melody, complaining about Anna and refusing to go back. Anna arrives and asks if anyone will share with her.

James tells Chantal that he will not let her experiment without Eliot's consent. She says that the reaction will not be violent, and that they have less than three weeks to break free of the storm. James reminds her that they have over three months rations, but Chantal tells him that with the CO2 extractor knocked out and the back-up system damaged, they haven't much time before the air ceases to support life. As James thinks this through Chantal fires the charge and the ship is struck by lightning. Before he can stop her, she does it again. James orders Petra to obey his verbal instructions only.

The next morning, Anna tells Herlinde that she couldn't sleep on her own, and tries to convince her to move back in.

In the physics lab, Chantal tells James that they must find a way to circumvent the storm's reaction to the ship's electrical field. Eliot enters and asks who fired the charge. He tells them that they took an unjustified risk, and that they will be staying put until the energy in the cloud dissipates. Chantal tells him that she knows about the CO2 extractor and that they haven't got much time. Eliot bans them both from Comcen until further notice.

Sara complains about the food rations. Daniel tells her he is conserving energy by not doing any work. As Victoria tells him to stop being unpleasant, Melody leaves to avoid Anna. Sara and Victoria follow, leaving Daniel and Jean-Francois. Anna explains that she is in her cabin alone and asks them to speak to the others, but Jean-Francois suggests that she speak to them herself. Daniel offers to share his cabin with Anna, but she leaves, upset.

In the Dome, Finbow tells James that he should have informed either himself or Eliot about the experiment. James explains that Chantal is the only one doing anything positive. He wonders why they are on a low calorie ration when the air will run out long before their provisions. Finbow explains that it is to make people think that the crisis is a long way off. They leave, not noticing Melody, who has heard their entire conversation.

Daniel and Jean-Francois play cards in the club. They wonder if they will ever see Space City again. When Jean-Francois loses all his money, Daniel suggests that he uses Melody as a stake.

Melody runs around looking for Timmy. She enters a deserted common room and curls up in a corner. Later, Victoria and Sara discover her in a state, they try to help but she runs off.

James asks why Eliot is being unreasonable, and explains that he feels that Chantal should be encouraged to experiment in any way she can. Eliot agrees that James should keep his watches on the bridge, but tells him that there will be no further experiments without his permission. Chantal contacts the bridge to ask James if he has been speaking with Melody, as she is acting very strangely.

An increasingly drunken Jean-Francois loses Melody to a cheating Daniel. Melody enters, looking for Jean-Francois, but she leaves when she sees the state he is in. She runs into James and tells him that she knows about the air supply. She runs off to the Dome.

James contacts Melody from Comcen. She has sealed herself in the Dome by jamming the lift. She asks James if he wants her to tell everyone they are going to die...
