"I think you'll have to clog dance around Io in a tutu before I'll sacrifice anything on behalf of Columbus College." - Harriet Bullock
James meets Professor Brelan at the airlock. Brelan is eager to meet with Mercedes, but is interrupted by Harriet Bullock, the new college principal, who asks to come aboard. He tells James he wants a tour of the ship.
Mercedes meets up with Alex, who is carrying out repairs in the Dome, and tells him that she doesn't want people to think they are a couple. He reminds her of their plan to comandeer the command module.
Rosie greets Harriet, and tells her there has been an exodus of students from the ship, but Piers and James are still aboard from the teaching staff. Harriet tells her that they should all meet together that afternoon.
Brelan inspects the accomodation available. Mercedes asks if they have missed any training, but Brelan tells them that they have been too busy keeping Space City alive. When they arrive in the Dome, Brelan asks about Finbow's mutiny. James tells him that Finbow deserves a medal, but Brelan says that the post graduates are being hailed as the real heroes.
Harriet impresses Rosie with her knowledge of the college. She tells her that she had time to do her homework as it took ten days to get them off the Valencia.
In Medicom, Brelan asks about the emergency operation. He feels that Medicom is not big enough for a real emergency, and it should not double up as an admin office.
In the club, Eliot and Rosie discuss Harriet. She tells him that Harriet doesn't like Brelan. Eliot says that the professor has been prowling around the ship with his eyes everywhere. Harriet enters and Eliot introduces himself. Harriet hands over a bottle of cognac, her leaving present from the girls at Lady Margaret Hall. As they share a drink, Harriet reveals that Professor Brelan intends to take over the ship.
In Medicom, Brelan tells Mercedes and James that Space City was hit badly by comet debris, but Daedalus Headquarters at Valhalla was better prepared. They are now being punished for their greater efficiency, as their stores are being requisitioned due to the current state of emergency. The Ilea is now the only functioning fusion powered ship in the Jupiter system and the outstations are desperate for replen. James suggests that the Ilea could go on supply runs, but Brelan tells him that the Ilea could not do that and take over the Daedalus sky mining project. Rather than looting Daedalus equipment, he wants to break the Ilea up!
Eliot tells an apalled Rosie that by splitting the Ilea into its original components, Brelan would have two functioning fusion powered liners. Rosie asks about the gantry modules, which Harriet says would be attached to Space Harbour. Eliot warns Rosie that Brelan has always fought to get what he wants. Harriet tells them that she fought for this position, and has not come seven hundred million kilometres to be stopped by Brelan.
Brelan tells Mercedes that the Daedalus staff would be moved to Valhalla. He is unconcerned about the rest of the college. James tells him that Columbus College also has backers and has achieved a lot, but Mercedes disagrees. Brelan tells James that he has a higher loyalty to Daedalus. Jupiter system doesn't need the Ilea, it needs the Naiad and Elizabeth Bonadventure now!
Herlinde and Sara head for Space City, but a depressed Melody tells them that she can't afford to go down. Herlinde is going to Annabelle's with Daniel, and as that means Sara will be on her own, Melody agrees to get changed and go with them.
Rosie joins Eliot in Comcen, and informs him that Finbow is on the shuttle. Eliot tells her that he had been ordered to get him off the ship immediately, whilst he is to see Commissioner de Grecy the next day. Rosie leaves to find their dress uniforms. The shuttle launches.
Harriet is settling into her cabin when James calls. She tells him that it is time for him to decide where his loyalties lie.
Later, in the physics lab, James tells Chantal that Harriet does not like Brelan. He asks about her fathers friendship with the professor, but Chantal tells him that they are just colleagues, and that her father doesn't trust scientists. She guesses that he is being asked to make a choice.
In the Stardust Cafe, Melody and Sara are amazed at the increased prices, caused by the lack of provisions. Herlinde offers to lend them some money, and leaves to meet up with Daniel. Cats and Mercedes enter the cafe where they spy Alex at the bar, he has been following them around all day. Sara goes to thank Alex for what he did on the ship, but he tells her that if she knew all that happened, she would run a mile. He shouts to Mercedes what would happen if everyone knew what they did on the ship. Mercedes storms out of the cafe.
