"Yes, and they're going through quite a lot on Space City now. You've all been down there, you've all come scurrying back to college! We're working round the clock on Comcen dome without the right equipment because the Tool Shop was hit. The food's poor, because the Valencia's storage modules are welded solid by the storm. We've overcrowding, because we can't get relief crews out to Europa and Io. And I don't think I'm giving any secrets away when I tell you we've got nine cases of scurvey in the Medical Centre. Men are working till they drop from exhaustion, and how many from the Ilea are down there helping? Well?" - Charles Brelan

Harriet presents Jean-Francois with his degree certificate. She is horrified at his suggestion that he may get a job with a mining company so that he can be near Melody. Chantal interrupts them to announce that Brelan has returned to the ship.

A bemused Brelan is watching Fiona revise for the quiz in a study lab when Harriet enters. She tells Brelan that it would have been common courtesy to ask before making an inventory of her ship. Fiona listens as Brelan reminds her that the Ilea is not her ship, and is the only operational fusion engined vessel left in Jupiter System.

In Comcen, Alex complains to Wilberforce, a disinterested relief officer who is covering Eliot and Finbow's suspension, about the state of Petra's files.

Chantal congratulates Jean-Francois, who tells Melody that Harriet suggests he goes back to Limoges, as staying in Jupiter System will ruin his career. An angry Melody wonders why Harriet has to interfere.

James tells Harriet that the conditions at present in the Jupiter System are very dangerous and sacrifices have to be made, but she does not think that is an excuse to shut down the college. He reminds her that Space City was almost annihilated by the comet, and another accident could prove fatal. She reminds him that she was actually there through all that. He invites her to a Daedalus briefing, but she declines and hopes that he will represent the colleges interests. She tells him that she wants Jean-Francois to take a Scanlab post grad course on Mars. James tells her that Jean-Francois will want to stay with Melody, but Harriet thinks not, after their earlier conversation.

In the Dome, Brelan speaks passionately to a group of students about a hypothetical future Daedalus mission. Chantal is dismissive and accuses him of being over idealistic. An angry Brelan reminds them of the problems down in Space City, and asks them how many from the Ilea are down there helping?

Alex has invited Timmy to Comcen, and tells him that he needs help in sorting out Petra.

Eliot meets Lili, proprietor of the Stardust Cafe, and asks if Pegleg has been in. He tells her all about his problems.

Harriet tells James that she has got Jean-Francois a place at Scanlab. He can work from the Ilea and transfer to Mars on the next available liner. James goes to Comcen.

Jean-Francois, fired up by Brelan's speech, volunteers to help out in Space City and says that he has spacesuit experience. Harriet overhears the Professor offering Jean-Francois a four week contract. She is not pleased.

A worried Fiona and Timmy discuss the quiz in the common room. There is only a week to go, and Fiona is horrified when Timmy leaves to help Alex in Comcen.

Jean-Francois tells Melody that he will be happy doing something worthwhile. Harriet interrupts them and tells them that Jean-Francois has been offered a special place at Scanlab, mid term, as a favour to her. There will be no going back after four weeks on the construction gang. She suspects that Brelan is picking off her students one by one, but wishes him luck. Later, in the Dome, Melody and Jean-Francois share an intimate moment. He tells her not to cry as the shuttle departure is announced. He leaves the weeping Melody to make his way to the entryport.

Timmy accesses Petra's deep memory, and tells Alex that Petra should not be underestimated. Alex tells Fiona that he is being paid by the Commission to service Petra. He wants to get the job done and return to Space City. He persuades Timmy to help.

In Space City, Brelan tells James that the Ilea is needed for other duties, but cannot do everything, especially with the students on board. Daedalus is already over budget and he needs the sky mine factories to start producing Helium 3 immediately, or the whole project will be in jeopardy. He asks James to persuade Harriet to be more cooperative. They are interrupted by a call from Jean-Francois, but Brelan puts him off. It was discovered that Jean-Francois had no EVA experience, and so he has been redeployed to another job he is more suited to.

Jean-Francois is waiting on tables in the Stardust Cafe. James arrives as a drunken Eliot compliments Lili on her singing. James is amused by Jean-Francois' new career. Lili gets fresh with Jean-Francois, much to Eliot's annoyance. Eliot takes a long, hard drink.
