"Searching for jobs, finding digs. Turned out of the nest at such an early age. You really are a ruthless man, Charles. Just like something out of Dickens." - Harriet Bullock

All the students are contacting their parents for help, as the dismantling of the Ilea begins.

Harriet joins Cats, who is taking a watch in Comcen. She has been told that they must defer to the civil authorities in the case of a local emergency, and that it is now all over. She tells him that this is Brelan's personal vendetta. He wants to break up the ship once and for all.

Herlinde tells Melody that Brelan has arrived. Melody rushes off, concerned that he is after Timmy.

Chantal meets Jean-Francois outside the common room. He tells her he has come for a few hours sleep as the hostel is like Dodge City. She tells him he had better get used to it.

Although Cats feels they should leave the accommodation modules for the whoever will be taking over the Naiad, Brelan tells him that he wants both the accommodation and storage modules in Space Port by the end of tomorrow. Cats asks him what he will do about the command elements of the ships which have been linked for a long time. Brelan tells him that he is splitting the computer.

Melody wakes Jean-Francois, telling him that she needs his help to save Timmy from Brelan, but he has only been asleep for ten minutes, and is too tired to be a role model for Timmy. Melody tells him that if he sleeps now he might wake up to find Timmy has been kidnapped. She drags him from his bed.

Brelan tells Harriet that the student accommodation modules are being attached to Space Harbour. He agrees with her suggestion that they might as well suspend all lectures. He suggests that the men with EVA experience could join the construction gangs. Harriet asks him if he would like to draft all the girls into working in the sordid establishment over Galtieri's!

Alex tells Brelan that he will need at least another week to sort out Petra. He tells him that Petra is a clever machine, moving files and directories and giving them new access codes from day to day. Brelan tells him that the computer has to be partioned to service the two ships, and gives him fortyeight hours. Mercedes enters as Alex leaves, and Brelan shows her a Daedalus newsletter that claims that it was the Daedalus trainees that saved the Ilea in the recent emergency. She tells him that it wasn't like that. He hasn't shown it to James, as he thought he wouldn't approve, but is surprised at her objection to it. He tells her that there are people who want to stop Daedalus, and they must sell it at every opportunity. He tells her that they all have to make sacrifices, her modesty included.

Timmy joins Brelan on the bridge. Brelan wants him to find something in Petra, and tells him that it is a sort of test for Daedalus. Timmy shows Brelan the video of SAM, and they discuss the first Mars expedition and its fate. Timmy tries to find the back-up audio, and tells Brelan that Petra hides thing away, but lets him have access as she knows that he does not intefere with them. Brelan warns him not to become to attched to a machine, and suggests that it isn't Petra who continually shuffles the files. A guilty looking Timmy denies that he knows what he is talking about. Brelan tells him that Petra has to be divided, and jokingly asks Petra to do the job herself. Melody and Jean-Francois arrive, and tell Timmy to attend a lecture. She warns Brelan about taking him on Daedalus. The Professor tells Timmy to leave, and then tells Melody that the next student found on the bridge without proper authority will be expelled and put to work for the emergency committee. She tells him that he does not frighten her, and leaves with Jean-Francois. Petra announces to a surprised Professor that the computer partitioning is now in place. Seperate computer functions now exist for both Naiad and Elizabeth Bonadventure.

Down in Space City, Chantal tells her father that he should stand up to Brelan. He tells her that he cannot be seen to be influenced by any one person. She angrily asks him if the Ilea is being sacrificed just so he can remain impartial.

In the Stardust Cafe, Mercedes tells Cats that she feels put under pressure by the newsletter. Cats relates a story to Mercedes of when he was hailed a hero for risking his life on a mission, when he had actually chickened out. he tells her that everyone has off days, and she shouldn't worry about anything cowardly that she may have thought of doing during the crisis. Melody arrives with Herlinde to the delight of Jean-Francois. They have come down to find Harriet to give her some good news from Herlinde's father.

Brelan tells the Commissioner that Petra is a remarkable machine. the Commissioner tells him he cannot have her, and that when the Valencia is back in commission, and the Endymion II arrives, the Ilea will be handed back to Columbus College, and so will the computer. Harriet arrives, and presents the Commissioner with a letter from the Department of the Environment in London. The Ilea is now a Grade One listed building, the combination of an Orion Class ship and a Moonstation ship being unique in space history. Brelan protests, having already started to seperate the two ships, but the Commissioner tells him that he must halt the work immediately, or have it stopped for him.
