"In my book "Mayday" means "I'd like some assistance, please, if it's not too much trouble". It doesn't mean "Let's sit around and work out how they sent the damn thing!"" - Cats Kitebrook

Cats thinks that the Copernicus' crew must be alive, but aren't acknowledging them as their comms antennae are down, but Finbow wonders how, in that case, are they sending the signal. As he thinks about it, he realises that the answer is obvious. It is a spacesuit that is broadcasting the mayday. Finbow tries to contact them on the suit frequency, but still gets no response.

Harriet arrives in the common room, and tells Jean-Francois that she hopes she won't be finding him lurking around the girl's cabins. Jean-Francois tells her that they all find themselves barred from places thay shouldn't be - he from the girl's accomodation, her from the bridge! Anna joins Harriet to tell her that Brelan has apologised for lashing out at her earlier. She says that the Professor must have also been under stress when he threw Harriet of the bridge, and is under the impression that he hit her!

Harriet storms to her office, and calls Brelan urgently. She is surprised when he suddenly appears behind her. She asks how news of their 'contretemps' is now all over the ship. He tells her he only told Anna that she was not the only one to suffer his unreasonable ill temper. He apologises, and tells her that they are approaching Amalthea, and he needs people to monitor the volcanic activity on Io. She suggests Jean-Francois and Victoria as the most experienced chemists. She asks, confused, if he has just apologised to her. He tells her that he always apologises afterwards.

Finbow joins Cats in the common room, and tells him that they are still getting no response from the suit, and they may not be able to make a decent approach with all the debris that is flying around.

In the Physics Lab, Victoria tells Brelan that everything is within acceptable limits, but the Professor realises that she has been scanning the wrong spectroscopic band. Jean-Francois tries to cover for her, but Brelan angrily tells them that they are dealing with a real mission and real lives. He orders Victoria to do another scan, and storms out.

Back on Callisto, a tannoy calls Sara and Melody to the Commissioner's Office.

Rosie contacts Carena to arrange the trip for Fiona and Timmy to Mars. She asks a disinterested officer if she should pack it all in and go to Leda.

Melody is tired of being kept waiting, and goes through the Commissioner's papers. She finds a file, and discovers that they have been given temporary employment! Rosie enters, and tells Melody they need to talk about Tim.

Harriet is outraged at what Brelan said to Victoria, but Brelan tells her that they should not be affected by the fact that her father is on the Copernicus. Harriet claims he is only interested in what he can scavenge for Daedalus, and is not surprised that he wants to go into deep space, as it is the only place big enough for his ego. He leaves, in a temper.

Sara and Melody have been put to work in the Stardust Cafe as waitresses, where Rosie tells them she has decided to go take the job on Leda. Melody is worried about Timmy, who is being sent to Mars as he is not responding to any treatment. She says that they have never been apart since their parents died.

An excited Finbow picks up the Copernicus on the scanner. He calls Cats.

Brelan enters the common room, and tells Victoria that he wants a word with her.

Rosie contacts Harriet via autosec to tell her of her decision to leave. Although dissappointed at losing her, Harriet says she would have done the same, and wishes her luck.

Brelan shows Victoria the video of SAM. She asks if this is to make her feel bad, but he says it is to show her that there is still hope, and to say he is sorry. He reveals that it is his father. He tells her that no one will try harder than him to reach the crew of the Copernicus, and no one knows more about why they have to do it. He is called to Comcen.

Finbow tells Cats that he does not think that there is anyone alive on the Copernicus, as the scan shows the ship listing at an unnatural angle. Brelan overhears this, and says although Finbow is probably right, if his opinions reach Victoria, then he will make sure that he never works in Jupiter System again.
